Could someone advise the engine running temperature for a Volvo Penta TAMD63 engine I have had overheating problems as posted in my thread before on my starboard engine it’s running slightly higher than the port side all
parts have been changed/checked

I have twin TAMD63P engines - one over heated last year but only when the rpm were pushed above 1500 - resolution was removal and cleaning of the heat exchanger and cooler - we did both - now one runs at 85C and the other about 80C due to the calorifier - under load only slightly increases

How are you checking temperature, if using volvo senders and gauges swop them over, they are never that reliable,

I have these engines and low voltage/ high resistance on the loom give poor readings. My experience is that the temperature reads high but the oil pressure reads low. A quick check of the lower helm gauges reveals all is well. The voltmeter gauge reading is your friend. It’s on the to do list for this winter.

Get an infra red thermometer from amazon or ebay and point it at the thermostat housings (stick a piece of black insulation tape on first)
Then you can see what is actually happeneing temperature wise.

I added a calorifier to my little 1.5 diesel and connected a car heater . I was expecting a running temp drop but with both on the engine still hits 87c.
I would be inclined to use a infrared thermometer for accuraye temps as guages and sensors can vary

My 63p’s are 24 years old one was running much hotter on the gauges, but never overheated, cleaned both engines seawater side chemically and problem engine Fresh Water /coolant side also.

I use an infra red gun comparative temperatures P&S were the same. Bought a clip on temp gauge to measure hoses or pipe work. Comparative and real values OK.

It is twin engine, twin station, so changed twin station temp sender (single station and twin station senders are different) no change, so now to change lower station gauge which is in a Tamplin built in self contained Panel for all Gaines and switch gear it is a right bd to get to and do any work without disturbing other components/ connection. But running fine at cruising speed 2500 rpm or max.

If the engine is an indirect cooled engine the temperature of the thermostat will control the engine temperature.

I changed the thermostat of my engine that cause the engine temperature to increase to a more efficient level
