Had a thought this year about insulating my engine bay mainly for noise reduction. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty quiet as it stands but trying to make it that bit quieter for when my son goes to sleep in the cabin.

Didn't like the sound of the V8 anyway! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Has anyone done this before or have some ideas where to get insulating from?

"Didn't like the sound of the V8 anyway!" What? The finest sound ever - amplify it....

Otherwise, try Thinsulate from 3M. Call their man on 0777 028 4926.

As ever, I have no commericail gain etc etc.

Thanks for that Piers, as for my comment with the V8 sound...hint of sarcasm...i know it rocks! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gifHowever, also enjoy my son cruising with me so need to prioritise my wants and needs.

Thanks again for you help.

I got mine from Norris Marine in Isleworth. Thinsulate probably better and lighter but more expensive. I'm sure they'll sell it too.

Gordon, I'm after some soundproofing, what did you get from Norris's and what sort of damage did it do to the beer fund?

Called the number Piers gave me and the guy on the phone was a great help.

Mentioned thinsulate was the better choice as it's proven to minimise noise more efficiently (also, it's the boat manufacturers choice too).

There are two types which he didn't name but called them the 'black' one or the 'metallic' one.
The black one can only be used away from the engine as it would absorb any spashes etc
The metallic one is obviously coated so would not absorb.

Give the guy a call as i found him very informative.

Pleased he was able to help. He's helped me with a number of boat care issues in the past. By the way, I think you'll find Sealine is now using Thinsulate, and one of their latest boats has recorded one of the lowest sound measurements for its class/size. Given Thinsulate weighs virtually nothing, it has no effect on speed/consumption.
