Engine rebuild, keep or discard existing diesel in tank?

Honestly ... do people really do this ??

I'm certainly not short of a bob or three ... but throwing away fuel for the sake of a bit of filtering ???

If small amount and I have a crappy container of diesel or petrol - I save it for use to clean items in ... amazing what you can clean with crappy fuel ...

it was a long way (250 miles) from home, I was time constrained and it was the simplest option
