I've bought a 50hp Yamaha engine to go on my boat, its a two stroke with oil injection and power tilt and trim. It seems to have a drive a by wire gearbox as there is no gear lever on the side as normal. I have two questions:

1- Where should the ID plate be as I cant find it? I really need to get an owners manual for the engine. Can anyone suggest what the official model is? The seller believed the engine to be circa 1994.

2- There is no obvious hole for the wire connection cable to go through, should there be an external connector?

Thanks.

. . . . . Where should the ID plate be as I cant find it? I really need to get an owners manual for the engine. Can anyone suggest what the official model is? The seller believed the engine to be circa 1994. . . . .

The engine number which includes a date code should be found on the left side of the mounting bracket.

Engine Plate:

Date Code:

If it is not there, it might once have been a stolen engine? :(

I believe the engine controls are on the right side and you should find two holes (¼", 6mm) to allow cables. Can you see the engine linkages inside the engine, once the cover is removed. Follow these linkages and try to find where the cables enter the O/B below the cover. ;)
