having traipsed arnd load of boat shows, we all know that MAN diesels shd have gold-plated rocker covers. I received a quote to the tune of almost 7 grand for these. On consulting with swmbo, the selfish moo has said it is entirely my decision.

Whereas really she should have gone to the rough end of Hatton Garden to buy them cheap for cash, taken me down the Beefeater and presented me with these gold-plated items in a cheap faux-leather hinghed box on the understanding of a definite shag later in the evening.

I am now worried that she doesn't really love me very much. Can you help?

Replacement model needed!

But could prove to be even more expensive than the gpld painted rocker covers. However I am told that 7 grand should buy you a shag never to be forgotten, but don't tell D, don't want to be banned from your LBS bash! /forums/images/icons/cool.gif

I\'ve got one here

mounted on a lump of mahogany. On the office windowsill. They gave it to me. Must be worth about £583.33. Offers?

Worried about the engineering

Do MANs have a sepret rocker cover for each cylinder ?? Eek. Anyway Alan I suspect the 7k did 2 engines so your trophy is worth £291.67 tops imho, plus whatever the mahogany is worth :)

Or maybe a DIY job for the winter? Unbolt 'em and bring 'em home then buy your own gold plating kit and while away the winter hours getting 'em all nice and shiny for next season.

www.goldplating.com

Seems that for about US$2,500 you get a full DIY kit. Looks fairly straightforward and once you've got the hang of it could write up a real upmarket report for the PBO site.

MBY goes wildly upmarket and moves to Bond Street

ooh, how kind. Does your rocker cover have two holes for the screws, or 4? and does it have a part number?

I do appreciate the gesture. However there are 24, and the ones for oil filler (4 off) are twice the price of others, the froggies will do it for 6 grand AND there are 48 studs and nuts and, washers, so not quite 200 quid even with the mahogany attachment.

MIND YOU... if u cd check the weight of the rocker cover, and get the bacvkroom boys to check the volume with a beaker of water, we could establish whether 18 or 24 carat cos they wouldn't dare fob you off with cheap PBO-style plated stuff would they??
