I’ve seen a few threads around the forum referring to these engines, nothing too alarming to be fair and I certainly feel a lot more enlightened as to what to keep my eyes peeled for. I’ve had the D12 800 (775) in the past but that boat had to go and now keen to get back in. My ultimate concern is the amount of engine hours considered to be fair game? In truth I admit to having been a boater sometimes swayed by “Hours Snobbery/anxiety”:unsure: Therefore, when I see boats up with 1000+ Hrs for post 2005 mfr I seem to want to squirm even though deep down i know if I’d had a boat having done 100hrs a year for 17yrs it would still be in fantastic condition, because, I’d keep it well serviced and maintained..

- What do you consider a lot of hours
- Is it REALLY possible for buyer/seller to protect/indemnify themselves from future meltdown??
- Where would you draw the line?

- 10,000 - 15000 hr .

- Service history due diligence esp the lubrication history .Regular fuel filtration more so if Common rail .Robust water in fuel alarms and mitigation as any water getting through will kill a CR injectors = hosing = piston holes = rebuild motor = mega £££ .

- ? Don’t know certainly not under 2000 hrs .

Could you get one with out CR ? Ie go back a few more yrs ?Would have thought that’s the biggest single thing to future proof against a “ meltdown “ Nice ap choice of words there btw .

whats CR?

I understand that the big issue with the D12 on boats is the exhaust elbows corrode. I think it is the angle that they are mounted allows condensation to collect. l believe that they are expensive to replace and can make a lot of mess when they go
