Re: Other uses for meter

One trick I've heard is to install another hour meter if you have an automatic bilge pump - that way when you go back to the boat, you'll know if it's developed a majpr leak.

I've put a Lascar digital one in from Radio Spares - stock # 365-6274
It gives total time and a resetable time, which I zero when I fill up with fuel.

Given the chance again I would try for an analogue one. I have two timers, one on each engine. The Starboard timer recently reset for no apparent reason, luckily I knew the hours and as we speak it is counting away merrily. I do not know what re-set it. There is a reset pin on the rear (not all of them have this). Thing is I have not been near it to knock it or short the pin accidentally.

The analogue ones look nicer too. here

Thanx for the info topcat. I had also been considering the analouge but the ones I had found were quite bulky. Will have a better look on the RS website. Assume with the curtis one again wired easily off the alternator, and the amps are very minimal.

With the curtis hour meter I have just taken the positive feed from the ignition barrel.

There are four pins

+12v
-12v (these two to battery and battery switch)
+12v (feed to turn timer on)
and reset (touch it with +12v and it will set back to zero)

The unit is supposed to hold the data for 20,000 hours without power or something like that. Like I said I do not know how it reset, maybe it was me, a mystery.

Otherwise they have been working fine for me, the port timer never glitching.

Would these work on an outboard?

I was thinking of putting an hour meter on the charging output from my Yamaha 8HP outboard. Anyone know if it would work?

Thanks.
