I just bought a 1966 Wayne 100 with a corvair engine in it, and the engine needs some work. The problem is when I get it on the water and start moving it overheats after only a few minutes. If you go to http://home.earthlink.net/~dshooksprint then you can see the specs and there is a little more of a decription on the problem. If anyone has any ideas as to how I could try to fix this please let me know. This is my first boat, and I am very excited about it's possibilitis!!! Thanks all - Justin

I had a similar problem with my Hillyard 12 Tonner built in 1959. It turned out that the sea water cooling system on the Morris Cowley engine (also 1959) was lined with years of accumulated crud almost like limescale. Once that was cleaned out the problem was solved.

Isn't the corvair engine a flat six air cooled thingy, somewhat like an agricultural version of a Porche 911 engine? The yanks also use them in homebuilt aircraft. Corvairs were the chevs that killed their owners with monotonous regularity until they were recalled :)
I'd recommend doing a google search for yank websites dedicated to it. If the barrels are horribly caked in rust then that will slow down heat transfer. Any air cooled engine should have an oil cooler as well, so check that out, and if it doesn't have one then fit one. Also check out the fans. They may have been replaced with something a lot less powerful. If you can contact owners of a similar boat, or even the original manufacturer, then you should be able to sort it out.
Just did a quick search and found a site dedicated to Wayne 100's :)
