The KAD32 in my Sealine S23 has to come out for some work on the hull so I was wondering what work it would make sense to do on the engine while I have access to it?

I have had a bit of a water leak, probably from the shaft seal on the raw water pump so I will do that and I also wondered about the water hose to and from the oil cooler. Any other throughts?

Engine is 6 years old with 400 hours and fully up to date on usual servicing

The sump on the kad32s is steel and have been knowen to rust through. Don't know the condition of your engine bay but it is worth checking and touching up any paintwork.

not sure where the starter motor is on that engine,
but might be wurth opening and cleaning + grease the "gear" mechanism of the electric starter,
tbc by engine tech.

A friend of mine has a single kad 42 which had a scabby sump, its not a big or expensive job to replace but you have to take out the engine which is.

If in doubt get a new one, get it well sprayed up with a good paint system and replace it as well as going over the engine well replacing any weeping joints clean and touch up.

if it out it may be worth dropping the sump and checking if there is a build up of sludge in the bottom of the sump ..... for the cost of the gasket which won't be a lot. I would give the whole engine a clean off mask up the stuff that isn't supposed to be green and after any work has been done spray the whole engine. also a really good oportunity to give the transom plate a good clean up on the inside.
