I am afraid the problem is not a simple as it seems . I have learned!
I am told that the solenoid on the back of the pump is the fuel metering control valve which actually controls fuel intake volume to the pump. This valve is controlled via the ECU using negatively triggered PWM signal. This is NOT a simple stop solenoid.
It is strongly recommended that a Volvo engineer is called to sort this problem out.
This engine is I believe, a marinised version of the 2.4 litre 5 cyl engine fitted in Volvo V70 cars. Its whole different kettle of fish to the old MD22/ Perkins that was fitted in Montegos eons ago
