One of the winter tasks I would like to do is to replace the 30+ year old foam egg box type insulation with something a bit cleaner and dare I say more effective.

Is the type of stuff that Halyard Marine sell the go-to material?

Oh definitely. I got some years ago for use in another boat and I never got round to it. It came as a pack of four sheets and is now in the back of my wardrobe. In its original packaging. It could be cheap!

Reduce the vibrations, enclose them in a tight box that itself doesn’t easily vibrate and then line box with a combo of heavy stuff, padding and reflective stuff. There are sound deadening panels for different frequencies but the standard stuff in chandlers is likely to be ok.

Excellent stuff. I lined the engine compartment of my motorsailer with it. The engine was a BMC 2.2 diesel, a notoriously noisy engine. We were amazed at its effectiveness. I also have it in my Sadler 34, done many years ago (18?) with similar results.DSC00656.JPG. Slight damage to the cloth covering done when removing the alternator but otherwise still looking good.

Does anyone know of a product that can be applied to the top of the floor beams that might reduce sound transmission though to the removable sole panels? The panels all have a good layer of insulation but I suspect 5here could be sound leakage from the beams to the panel edges.

I'm in the process of making new sole boards in the saloon that will be above two 250HP lumps, I plan to seat them on some 3mm self adhesive foam tape as a belt and braces to do the best I can to minimise any escaping decibels.
