Have a look at this site... Apparently the economic "Prius" car uses the Atkinson cycle in some way... Wonder if it could work with a CI diesel... Save us a bit when the red stuff goes.
Oh and the tyro engineers can see other engines "working" on the same site - interesting?

blimey - the theory looks good - but looking at the picture you need 3 conrods and 4 pins (per cylinder) - all of which require bearings and oil feeds. Also the timing of the engine looks to be extremely sensitive to component dimensions.
