Engel fridge kaput

My Engel fridge has packed up.Has anyone got any suggestions of what I can replace it with? I saw a tv progamme on restoring a narrow boat and they put one in with a device that when on 240v or charging 12v it stored up cooling and when moored up it released it thus saving battery power. On my old boat I replaced the Engel again with a Waco with a Danfoss compressor to help with the batteries,it didn't make a significant difference.
Any help would be greatfully received.

I replaced my main fridge and engel which id say is the same size as your with a waeco, it was £450 and fitted in exactly the same slot.

All the major brands make fridges for 12/230v. Some even for gas, designed for caravans.

Make sure it is a compressor type (as opposed to peltier) if you wan't proper refrigeration.

Waeco, Dometic, Elecrolux, Engel, Isotherm and more. Isotherm even offer kits, if you want to design you own. Since fridges are used in trucks, RV's, caravans and boats the dimensions are widely standardized to fit in common interior modules.

I have a personal preference for Engel, based on experience, but have no documentation to support it should be better than the others.

There was a piece in MBY where Greg Cropp fitted a Waeco in his Sunseeker Thunderhawk which he highly recommended especially its low current use, it was tropical rated so incredibly well insulated. When mine dies this is the route I will take.

Thanks for that Mark.Not sure if we might have to go for a new one.From what we have researched the best for efficiency is a Waeco Isotherm that has the capability of storing the cooling for 12 hours with no drain on the battery.I took my old fridge to a 'muppet' near us and think he has b*****rd it up so bang goes £600 for a new one.
