While this summer is not over, and the season is still in full swing, well at least the wine is here, it became apparent that after the MDL bash there was to be a end of season do? Is that still on, if so when? who is organising? Brendon? KIM? if not why not?

If required I would offer to organise, but those who know my organisational skills are only any good with glass in one hand and mobile in another. Is anybody else up for a meet? where we can all talk about lost fenders? (I am still in debt for that one) and how much H1 has now got on his boat, also about the new one?, not forgetting Mr Moose's new toys, we coudl also have the first of many tender championships, of course there will have to be rules, because if not Questor, Toscana or Arcadia will cliam the first, second and third. so a twist that will mean if you have a 2.5/ 3.3/5 or a 15 all stand a chance.....

Any ideas on a postcard or the back of an empty beer bottle please.....

Yes put me down for it, I have a Marquee if it helps /forums/images/icons/wink.gif but it doesn't float /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif How about a BBQ contest with judges to judge for style, presentation, flavour, e.t.c. ? We could also have a coktail mixing contest as well, with a prize for the best Forum cocktail invented /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Let's get organising before I have to get my gennie and heaters out /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

4th of October 04 is the first date I can make due to rugby commitments, but I guess that is only 4 weeks away. My Swedish Au pair arrives the Sunday before so if SWMBO can't get down I will be OK for crew /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I am concerned that we are limiting ourselves to an end of season bash when we have worked so hard since last October to develop an appropriate calendar!
The following were, I thought (?), sufficently successful to warrant repetition (but I appreciate that basing decisions on my recollections may be a little flawed.....)-
(a) October bash on Wareham Quay to coincide with the cessation of the trip boats use of the quay
(b) Winter weekend on Poole Quay with a weather dependant trip agenda ( relaxed speed limit in harbour, sheltered waters, etc) but to include mince pies and mulled wine
(c) Mercury / Hamble in the Spring.......to get the season off to a flying start and meet new friends with new boats!

However, maybe a merger of (a) and (b) above in early November might have benefits?

All of the above get my vote, though a 'laying up supper' for all the forums as suggested by (Forbsie?) after Mercury do at end of season could be good fun.

Needs to be somewhat bigger and more accessible venue than Wareham, and more centrally located than Poole to allow for raggies from Brighton, Chichester etc.

i'm about ready for a "do" think iv'e sold the small boat, and arranged that i'll put the cash into the building budget untill i need it for the main boat.

looking forward to may '04 for all the work to be done, and this time NO 'KIN EXCUSES!!!!

After this weekend (if everything goes according to plan) ishould be effectively boatless once again (a situation that is bocoming less attractive as time goes on)

the only other "project" in hand is the oyster launch. for some reason i can't help feeling that i'm going full circle with the fishing boat/harbour thing??

be good to see you all again, and Pierro is looking forward to the "mad" boating people coming to visit again....

see you all soon, steve.

Cowes, that'd be a laugh, or Southapton, can't get more central than that, but then the people uup norf would have a bit of a slog. What about regional type things with a regional coordinator. Or is that too yacht club'ish?

The smaller regional events seem to handle themselves. It would be good to have a Mercury type big bash at beginning and end of season.

Mid season people are off doing boating things (like regional events such as the Poole peeps have pulled off brilliantly)

Cowes, Southampton or anywhere like that would be fine. As locations go, there are more peeps on South Coast than anywhere else, and for a big bash, it makes most sense. Once you start holding the meet in Scotland, The Wash or West Wales, you reduce the number that turn up, as unfair as it is to those peeps who live further afield.

PS, the nice thing about big bashes is getting loads of peeps there that you haven't met, and including the raggies etc. Quite a lot of us meet at smaller do's all year round

How about a bash in a hub city, like London or Birmingham where it would or should be pretty easy for people to travel to. We may be able to take over a small hotel or whatever for one night away convention /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I have taken my staff to Berlin, Palma, Dublin, Edinburgh, Prague, Florence, Amsterdam, Monte Carlo, Turin, & Paris for day trip lunches, although palma was an overnighter. It doesn't need to be expensive as all ours were pretty much the same price of a good night out in London.

We are taking over a first class carriage (23 seats) for a trip to Brussels in the next few weeks, the cost is £109pp but includes meals and drinks both ways, and we are negotiating use of the club lounge which is normally for Business First only. You depart Waterloo at 8.50am, have a full english breakfast on the train, with large reclining seats, complemetary drinks and newspapers arriving at about Midday, sightsee and pubs in the afternoon, then depart about 7pm with a champagne reception, three course meal and unlimited wine and drinks on the way back, arriving in Waterloo at 8.45pm. Not bad for an office lunch! The plan is that it keeps the group tegether for the meals, some freedom in the afternoon and a second bash on the way home. We chose Brussels as it is more compact than Paris to get about, and I have colleagues over there who are arranging the tours. A bit more civilised than some of our early flights from Stanstead /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
