Hi all,

It is with some sadness that I have to announce I will cease trading as of 1st dec 2012.

There are a few reasons for the cessation of the business, greatest of all is the start of a new job at BA, which is going to see me commit more time to them.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of my customers for their business, and I hope that I have fulfilled your expectations and that I have delivered excellent customer service - one of my core reasons for embarking on this venture in the first place.

For any of you with outstanding appointments or planned work, I will, of course honour my obligations to you, so you won't see any difference to any scheduled work.

From this point, I won't be taking on any more work as my indemnity / liability insurance lapses on 1st december, and I am fully booked until then.

I would like to give special thanks to B1 of this forum, as he was my first paying customer, and his recommendations to others helped to build my client base in the early days. His sterling work for the TMBA should also be mentioned.

I would also like to give another special thanks to Sulley, as she also helped me greatly when I first started, firstly by recommending me, and secondly for not giving up on me by the third attempt to fix her water pump! If you want to buy or sell a boat, she's the best :)

I have chosen to make the announcement on this forum as most of my customers are members and it is an easy place to make sure I reach the largest audience.

The website will still be active until mid january as that's when the contract runs out.

Once again, thank you for all your support and your custom.

Ross

Oh bugger!

Thanks for your help, Ross: all the very best for your new role.

Will it get you to lots of places where the sun shines?

Crikey! Do I get a 'Russ'll fix it badge' for being one of your last punters!? :p

Congrats on the new job, hope it treats you well Sir! :D

Sorry to hear this Ross. BA's gain, is our loss! Good luck in our new position, hope it all goes well with you.
Like others, we'll too continue to wave when passing :)

Isn't that an opportunity to find an equally skilled and dedicated technician/engineer, and keep the business going ? Clearly the market for an A team on the Thames is large and active enough to support Rosstechmarine Mk 2. ?

Plenty of good independent marine engineers on the Thames, if you can get on their books. Most have a sufficiently big client base to keep them fully employed all year round. The rest effectively have to pay the vastly inflated 'main dealer prices' the marinas charge.
In my experience the best engineers work for themselves and not the marinas.

Any recommendations?

Ross, NO!!

Thanks for the kind words :o at least you won't nearly get asphyxiated trying to fix my engine anymore, you did look at bit spaced that day!

I'll leave it up to you on the recommendations......

Hi all, thank you for the kind words, I'm all a bit upset now!!

Still at the office in my new job (it's blinkin' 10pm already!!) so I'll get back to you all tomorrow.

Yes, I do have a very good recommendation for you (watson1959 has used him already) but I'll save that surprise until tomorrow :)

...and I've been back here since 05:45 this morning..

Thanks for the good luck messages :)

Russ - sorry, not great timing from me there!! :(

Watson1959 - unfortunately not - in fact I've moved from the rather shiny T5 to the old world dark and dingy T1 to look after the migration / integration of the recently acquired BMI operation.

No Regrets, um, no 'Ross'll fix it badges' for obvious reasons!!

B1 and Sulley, again, thanks for the sentiments. Sulley, yeah, that was a rather dizzy afternoon.. :)

As for a replacement....... Your new man is one Mr Nick Roberts.

As I mentioned before, I have asked Nick to step in to help out when I have been too busy to get urgent jobs done quickly, and I hope that the forumites in this thread who have used Nick can vouch for his performance and dedication. I certainly can, and I have no hesitation in recommending him.

He goes by the handle of Nick Marine Engineer on this very forum, and he is more than happy to take PM's from interested parties. I won't post his phone number on here for fear of breaking forum comercial rules, but he is keen to take on more work so get in there quick!

As for those hoping to wave as they go past - another side effect of this change is the potential for me to actually use my boat more frequently, so, in the best possible way, hopefully I won't be there to wave to! :)

Thanks again everyone for your help and support over the last year or so.

Hi Ross

I know we have spoken in the last few days about your plans for the future and I fully appreciate your feelings in that regard.

I thought I would post officially on the forum to acknowledge my appreciation for your comments and also that it has been a pleasure working with you. I hope as we have discussed with the possibility of some project work coming up that we might do again.

I will of course endeavour to look after any of your clients that choose to use my services from now on as well as you have and I welcome their enquires.

I wish you all the best for the future.

Nick
