Re: is she realy or

You sound incredibly bitter. Ellen has got where she is (with plenty of sponsorship money) by hard work. Plenty of people had similar raw talent, perhaps. But they didn't have the drive to develop it. Ellen did. She proved herself in the Mini-Transat for 6.5M yachts, a race specifically designed [by a British yachtsman] to give less well funded entrants of ability to show their worth! A sponsor dipped their toe in the water by chartering her an Open 50 for the last Route du Rhum. She delivered for her sponsor. That's how she got the big bucks sponsorship.

And don't give me the "silver spoon" rubbish because you know no more about my financial situation than I do about yours.

Re: is she realy or

You're right about EM, and she certainly wasn't born with the proverbial silver spoon. I seem to remember one story in the boating press only a few years ago that, for a spell, she lived in a shipping container in France when, for some reason she couldn't get on her boat.

Totally dedicated!

I just hope, as I said before, that she doesn't end up being put on a pedestal too much.

I'm also glad that, so far anyhow, we haven't had any of this "She's a beacon for women everywhere" rubbish. No doubt though the feminist brigade will jump on the band wagon at some stage.

Re: female beacon

hear hear. For once, twould be great to hear that some one is just great at what they do. NOT "greatest female" ocean racer. Ellen certainly not very silver spooned. Nor indeed, even the sligtest boatie-advantaged. I can't see a fat lot of diffrence/advantage female/male at ocean racing. So, fabulously well done Ellen.

Still think she's is a bit of a miserable git BUT it might just be the accent, or a bit of TV skills and anyone might be the same after what she's been through...
