Re: Ellen M and shame about the Ashes

Give my regards to Andy Priaulx when you see him and tell him congratulations from me as I havent seen him in 18 months.

Great racer, used to race in same motorcross class as him, nice bloke too.

I am boating again ;-)

Re: Braveheart

I'm sorry to be coming in late on this one but I've just read it - most of what you say is not really correct but when you get to the bit about the ETB not getting as much money as the Scots then it is for two reasons, which are:
The English don't deserve it - when F & M hit they hit the panic button and shut down the lake district - then realised they'd ballsed up big time and are even now trying to appease the poor hoteliers and local businesses that nearly went bankrupt as a result.
the second is more obvious - Scotland deserve more money because Scotland is more beautiful - think of the Glens:
Glenmorangie,Glenlivet,Glenfarclas, Glenkinchie......

regards

Re: okay but

Since I was 11 sailing has been my principal recreation. Am now 40. I followed Ellen Macarthur's progress in the Route de Rhum and am full of admiration, although I was more interested in last year's Volvo where the teams could put the pedal to the metal 24/7.

I can barely kick a ball straight but that didn't stop me jumping off the sofa and running round the room when Beckham curled in the equaliser against Greece that took England to the World Cup Finals.

Does this say anything about participatory and spectator sports?

By the way, it was a Crystal Palace fan.

Re: English NOT British

mmm why not ask Ellen weather she regards herself as more English or more Scottish.. ? As person of Cornish/Breton heritage living in Scotland.. I can identify with feeling more akin to a different area etc than birth place or ancestry

Re: okay but

You're right about EM, but I couldn't care less about Beckham. One of the joys of sailing is that I can escape from football. As far as I am concerned the best thing about the World Cup was when England lost and we were able to get back to normality.

Re: okay but

I live in a football-mad city. The local paper review of BBC Sports Personality... was "who let Ellen in? She doesn't play football!" Priceless. They just couldn't handle the concept of other sports being allowed in!

The interesting Ellen question now is whether her sponsorship deal survive the departure of Geoff Mulcahy - certifiable sailing nut and serial Swan owner - from Kingfisher?

Re: okay but

I think Ellen's sponsorship deal with Kingfisher is secure for another couple of years.
