Elizmor - a solution

I cannot imagine why anyone in the digital marketing world would be so averse to building up a continuous online presence.

I can. It is because they believe the earth, sun and universe revolves around them. Probably because some equally self obsessed parent has told them so.

This whole episode has been very useful to me. I own a lad coming up to 10 years old. If I recognise any of these traits appearing in him I shall exorcise them PDQ.

As one with (much) older children, I wish you luck and will ask you one question, "How much notice did you take of what your Dad said when he lectured you?"

I know I ignored mine & it wasn't until I was in my late 20's that, chatting to my elder brother, we admitted that he had been right - some of the time.

Clyst, me ol forum chum and fellow boat owner. May I remind you that it was you who nonchalently 'dissed' Ellies boat.... ?

Bung it in a skip, worthless, pile of old timber, unseaworthy...yet you know nothing about boats judging by your posts , eg 'Guys, what is a handrail for on a boat ? ' (cos old motor sailiers like yours have notably high bulwarks and stantions, therefore why on earth fit 'em universally?)

You also 'forgot' that Ellie had a survey on Elizmor before buying.

So, a bit less of the "what a nasty character'', please. A more reasoned PROPORTIONAL response even, if you like..
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And you have used ''FFS'' twice recently..Why? How does that help your argument exactly?

Now, about that Eber of yours...I can advise if you wish to fit a good 'ol British Taylors, but as to fivers, 'fraid the generosity ran out at the pint of virtual Glenfiddich and with my next sail purchase..

Aye, Tim

What Ellie did was fine - it's modern social media marketing for dummies. The idea is that any traffic or content you generate can be recycled and builds subscribers/users/traffic. This in turn has a value, not huge but can make a few quid here and there. Just because one or two others are slightly more subtle (or as Dylan says the forum is of very low commercial value) doesn't make it any kind of sin.

The smart thing to do at this point would be for a crane company to come in and make an offer to do the job for £2,500. Every sailor in the place would then have them at the top of their mental list of crane rental companies for springtime.

I would say the forum (and I am an intermittent user) divides neatly into four groups (think Ven diagram)
1)Those who know a lot about stuff and are willing to share their knowledge -thanks
2)Those I'd like to go for a pint with
3)Those I would rather lick my bilges than go for a pint with
4)Those who know little about boats but still share their opinions anyway

Snide, snearing, unpleasant attitudes just show people up for what they are.

Still not giving a fiver though!

Ellie's thread has dragged on long enough now and the snide remarks are starting.

Knowing something about desperate boaty situations (Pat C sinking), I think it is time we did something positive. During recovery of the Pat C, my son Mark received a lot of advice (mostly helpful), but also some of the financial variety.

I suggest we start a launch fund, anonymous and run by an independent - our faithful moderator?

How many of us are there? What would a fiver each raise?

Ellie's is a problem that can be solved by throwing money at it.

You are a very generous soul Graham, and to drag this post back to it's original subject and cut through all the SH One T; yes I would donate a fiver and if 199 more of us did the same, we could make up the £1000 difference between the original craneage quote and the current one. Then we could put the whole subject out of its misery without the aid of any thought police.

Always been the way I think. I know my father did not listen to his father and his father did not listen to his father!

I remember my old man telling me that, at the age of twenty he could not believe how stupid his father was. At the age of thirty he was amazed at how much his father had learned in just ten years! :)

However, they were different times. Today, the world moves at a disturbing pace and the potential for something going wrong turns into the reality of something going wrong very rapidly.

That is my concern.

The only problem i see with this is finding 199 gullible people to part with their money;)

Don't suppose you could chuck some £5's my way? I sadly underestimated the cost of fixing our steering system, and it's costing around £1000 more than I'd initially budgeted!

What £1000 difference? All Eleanor would say was that the differences was "£ double figures" and she declined to explain what that meant.

I think we decided (with no verification of course) that it meant it had escalated from the supposed £6K up to more than £10K. That seems to make sense.

Is that the progress that the Marina hinted at? She could share the the ground survey cost if the crane was positioned between the two boats. Probably even bring the unit cost of the lifts down if they were done on the same visit.

Sounds possible. Unfortunately, whatever the possibility is, Preston Marina's most recent word on the subject was that she hadn't responded to them about it.

Quite, rather like her response to her questions raised on here , silence. But poss support from Admin on here over her actions, or non actions .Very strange affair I would say.
