Elizmor - a solution

Golly. Eleanor's stalker has had one thread locked, and the long one has been locked as well. How long can this one last? Is Elizmor now The Ship Which Cannot Be Named? Will the "sponsors" demand their stuff back?

Blimey, long thread really locked? Have we broken YBW's thread counter at 160,000? Who would have thought...

When next can something so innocent as any old boat purchase drive such numbers, I wonder..?

My money is just possibly on Dylan making Scotland come alive for us Southern softies with Orcadian narrative and video , and here's to that venture too!

Not so much about the boat more acute thread drift .

The smart thing to do at this point would be for a crane company to come in and make an offer to do the job for £2,500. Every sailor in the place would then have them at the top of their mental list of crane rental companies for springtime.

Rod for their own back. Every impecunious sailor would be rattling on their door.

What Ellie did was fine - it's modern social media marketing for dummies. The idea is that any traffic or content you generate can be recycled and builds subscribers/users/traffic. This in turn has a value, not huge but can make a few quid here and there. Just because one or two others are slightly more subtle (or as Dylan says the forum is of very low commercial value) doesn't make it any kind of sin.

I would say the forum (and I am an intermittent user) divides neatly into four groups (think Ven diagram)
1)Those who know a lot about stuff and are willing to share their knowledge -thanks
2)Those I'd like to go for a pint with
3)Those I would rather lick my bilges than go for a pint with
4)Those who know little about boats but still share their opinions anyway

Snide, snearing, unpleasant attitudes just show people up for what they are.

Still not giving a fiver though!

Very neat, but you may find your preconceived stereotypes do not match the reality if you ever meet any forumites.

Graham,

FWIW I had the same idea of helping Ellie, but decided not to even mention it as there are actually only quite a small number of regular forumites and I didn't think £5,000 acheivable; I hadn't expected so much vitriol either !

I started copying comments to compare and contrast with our thread. But it just became too much.
How Graham and Blueboatman can compare our mild rebuttals with that thread beggars belief.
How JellieEllie can repeat history with such a brazen face also baffles me. The confidence of youth, eh?

Some people learn by experience, other just want to get the stuffing knocked out of them.

Oh, I wish her well in her endeavours, don't get me wrong. I also have no issues with JE asking for help and advice on the forum, at the end, that's what it's here for. I've asked for and received enough assistance through here. Personally, I draw the line when people start asking for financial help for what is essentially an "every day" problem. Though it seems a lot of people on here (generally older men) tend to have a soft spot for the damsel in distress.
+1

Jeez! Every other thread about Jellyellie has been locked, so the rabble have rushed over to this one!

It seems clear that the subject of this unpleasantness is the person, and nothing whatsoever to do with any boat. And the harassment continues.
Are you the Forum Police. Should we propose a thread subject and submit for approval before posting?
Do we have to have a discussion by PM to avoid upsetting people on others' behalf?

You must be so disappointed that the "rabble" have come over here. On the other hand the "rabble" were doing OK where they were until the hand-wringers objected.

Expect some indignant nonsense soon from the usual suspects about their right to say what they want... who voted you forum moderator.....my post doesn't have to meet your standards....don't read it....etc etc

I notice someone has dragged a thread up from a business forum that she started when she was 18.

I'm not sure many of us would want our teenage ramblings raked over publicly now.

I used to enjoy reading YBW, but this topic and its endless spin offs have left me questioning if I want to be part of it anymore.

The Gestapo have arrived on a thread they want no part of. Oh the irony of it.
