Electricity rip-off?!?!

As a berthholder at Haslar we have an individual socket and pay a metered rate. My last bill was about £5 - think that was for 2 months. Very fair I though

I was told that this was because large stinkies use loads of electric with their fridges, air con, search lights, 1MW sound systems etc.

in that case there should be a rate for stinkies!!!!!

I never had any fellings - good or bad - towards stinkies in the past.
Having cruised up and down the Solent these last few days, I now realise what every raggie was on about. Tax red diesel now! Banrupt the [--word removed--]!

Hmmmm..... nothing like tolerance hey..

It's comments like yours that fuels the divide between those that choose to sail and those that choose to motor.

What an ill thought, stupid coment to make.

Well said. Bizarre how an "Electricity rip-off" thread can become an anti Mobo rant...

Absolutely not representative of all Solent sailors!!

Like most - ignore the peasants ...

Ignore those that fuel the MOBO - Raggie saga .... it's best .... as replying or acknowledging only drags it on ...

Like I said, it was only 3 days in the Solent and our first encounter with a large amounts of motorboats.

If you're keen to instill some tolerance, here are a couple of pointers:

1. DON'T cause mini-tsunamis when you're cruising past an anchorage. No-one was impressed by the size of your wake.
2. DON'T leave your generator running all night, just so you can leave every light on. (even when you're not on board)
3. Resist the temtation to race past us in the Portsmouth Small Boat Channel at 15kts plus when we are stacking sails. Caused my eldest to fall.

Apart from that, no hard feelings.

If you, your boat or your crew are not up to the conditions you should expect to find in the Solent made by people going about the lawful business you shouldn't be there.

Give it a rest - its about the bl*ddy marinas ripping the boating community off with the price of electricity .... not about bl*ddy mobos and bl*ddy raggies ... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Who? Me? I 've only just found the thread.
I think you've replied to the wrong user

It's just in case you start /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You can't reply to 2 at the same time ... its a bit like trying to hit an old granny ... you just can't do it - so you punch someone else instead! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Isn't that the point? The normal conditions (those due to wind and tide) are expected and can be dealt with. The abnormal conditions made by people lacking normal courtesy may be dangerous. The fact that the law isn't explicit in banning them doesn't make them acceptable.

Ha I see, so normal conditions are bright blue sky, a constant f4 and 24 deg water with nothing but raggies out on the water?

Me thinks I'm boating in the wrong place.

Anyway. I have had my Friday afternoon fun. Have a good weekend all and watch out for those MoBo's.

Luckily I'll be in the marina this weekend cleaning the boat after our two week holiday.

Have fun.
