I find it difficult to make my wiring look neat. I tend to connect stuff up to check if it works, then try and tidy the cables up afterwards.
So I was pleased with my neat installation of my Webasto fuel pump connection, especially as I had had to crawl into a very tight cockpit locker.
Pleased, that is, until I found the pump cable still loose, but my inspection light lead neatly clipped!
DOH!, back to square one.

$H1t happens!

I welded a large nut on a trailer chassis once. It needed careful positioning. A 21mm open end spanner held it in exactly the correct place.

I did a lovely job of mig welding the nut in place, only to find I needed the angle grinder to get the spanner off!

Spiral wrap and P clips, either simple nylon ones at 4d a dozen or really nice stainless rubber lined ones at quite a bit more depending on budget. I once fitted a heater the wrong way round, not paying attention and a ten minute job to rectify but quite embarrassing nonetheless.

As trainee engineers at the BBC, my mate and I often got the wiring jobs. These entailed running a 50-way cable up a wiring frame like in a GPO exchange and wire-wrapping the cores. My mate is rather short, so used a step-ladder. When finished, he once discovered he had routed the cable via the steps.

We took a hacksaw to it, chucked it in the skip, and drew a replacement out of stores.
