Any suggestions for a contractor with good experience to advise on best options for fitting enhanced battery charging capabilities - chargers/wind/solar - in the Clyde area.

Whilst I could dabble based upon theory, I tend to think there is value in applying been there done that expertise

MB Marine Electronics at Ardrossan get a good rep. I've only ever bought stuff from them and he's a nice guy to deal with. 01294602003

I would second that. Martin has done some work for me in the last few years, and he is both quick and efficient. You can email him at mbmelec(at)aol.com

Both Boat Electrics and Electronics at Kip and DDZ Marine at Largs have arranged electrical work for me quite satisfactorily.

I would be more inclined to go for Boat Electrics (BEE) for battery charging advice as they are very experienced in all aspects of electrics and electronics where DDZ tend to be more electronics orientated. I have recently discussed with BEE moving my battery bank some distance from the current location and they made it easy for me to understand the implications and possible solutions that they could offer.

I'm currently having my charging system upgraded by BEE (alternator regulator, battery monitor and additional house battery) and have been impressed by their service so far. Last year they installed a new chart plotter and AIS for me - also good job. I chatted with Dougie at BEE about solar/wind power and he certainly appeared knowledgable and experienced in both.

My pontoon neighbour was having some electronic work done by Clyde Marine Services last week and had no complaints. I know he comes recommended by some in that area also.

I've used BEE several times; they did the electronic refit I did when buying Capricious, and several minor jobs thereafter. I've always found them helpful and reasonably priced. Most recently, I needed a 7 pin deck plug and socket; they sold it to me and when we realized I'd got two male parts, they went out of their way to replace the socket after hours.
