Electric windlass/chain question

At what cost for the Quick and the Lewmar controllers? ebay remotes are around £10 and most of us are very happy with them and no problem washing the chain at the same time

If you read what I wrote, I didn't say that ebay weren't useful and effective, they obviously are, I wasn't being critical.
I was just pointing out that the manufacturer's version has more capability, which I for one find very useful when handling a 14m, 16 ton boat on my own, others may not be aware of their advantages and might even find them useful.
Please carry on being happy with your ebay remote and I'll carry on being happy with my Quick CAN Bus system.
One day I might even work out how it'll put the kettle on.

Since we've drifted away a little, usually when wireless windlass remotes get mentioned there are some doom and gloom warnings without any actual data - anyone had a catastrophe caused by a wireless anchor remote failing? Flat batteries don't really count, should be on a monthly checklist.
Mine's not missed a beat in a lot of years but maybe I just got lucky..

I'd go for 50m of 8mm chain plus 50m of rope rode. Fit foot switches up near the windlass plus a circuit breaker so you can disable it when not needed as others have said so it is not inadvertently operated and where you can see what is going on when you raise and lower the anchor, you need to be able to see the anchor and chain. Mark the chain say very 5m so you know how much you have let
I have 2 circuit breakers in my set up one for the main power to the windlass and the other for the switch circuit

anyone had a catastrophe caused by a wireless anchor remote failing?

Failure on several occasions with different boats (flat battery, receiver got damp in it, just stopped working for unknown reasons...) but no catastrophe because there was always either a hard-wired remote or deck buttons. I didn’t bother to investigate the last one, and have just stuck with the buttons.

On my windlass set up I have a cockpit switch, an eBay wireless remote, buttons on the bow and a wired remote.
The most used are the the cockpit switch as I can see the bow so know if deployed and when recovering The last 5m is heavily marked. Then I go on the bow to sort the housing of the anchor by the foot switches.
I rarely use the wireless one but at £11 on eBay it’s worth it just on the odd occasion I stand up on the cockpit seats for a better view and when putting all the chain on a pallet in the winter.
The one I’ve never used other than to check it still does is the wired remote.
What I would like is a cockpit mounted chain counter display etc., but the marked chain is good enough for me as the counters are just too expensive when a visual markings are sufficient.
