Electric vs mechanical control (200 vs 225)

Anyone has some recommendations for Suzuki outboards:
200hp 4 cylinder, drive-by-wire vs 225hp 6 cylinder, mechanical command?
Ideal would be 250hp, but it is too expensive.
Those two are similar price.
This would be installed on new Merry Fisher 795.

Nobody with advice, electrical vs mechanical; i4 vs v6? Doesn’t have to be Suzuki.

I would tend towards drive by wire if I was replacing my DF200 V6. The controls are much smoother for engaging gear. The only possible downside I have heard of is a delay when going from forward to astern to avoid accidental damage.

The compromise is that V6 is a bigger block with more grunt.

I’d personally always prefer more cylinders and More cc. However the inline 4 models are light and fuel efficient. My boat is diesel with stern leg but I didn’t go for drive by wire. Sure it isn’t as butter smooth with cables but there is much less to go wrong. There have been at least two recalls for my engine range since I bought it for digital throttle issues including could go into gear by itself.

At the end I decided to go for max power, 250hp.
Choice is Suzuki 250APX V6 or Mercury Verado V8 AMS DTS.
Suzuki is little bit cheaper.
Performance, cruising speed and cruising speed consumption would be similar with both engines?

The 225 and 250 mechanical are still available and great motors.
Looks like you've made a right choice as the 225 today is the same motor as it was in 2007.

Anybody tried new Verado V8 to compare it to Suzuki or similar V6 outboards on boat like Merry Fisher 795?


Reading on internet, looks like new Verado has the edge over Suzuki.
In my case plus for Suzuki is good dealer, since i have Suzuki DF40 on my current boat and am happy with it.
But this Verado looks tempting. Dealer should also be ok but I don’t have any experience with them so i am not sure.
Is new Verado that much better than Suzuki to give it a try?

Suzuki 250 will be at the end.
Little bit cheaper because of the rigging is more expensive for Mercury, and Suzuki service is located more closely to my boat.
