Electric Struts

One each side of the arch or the arch will flex if you only lift from one side. I can't remember the stroke, I think it was 12".

The size of ram you choose depends on all kinds of things - weight of arch, lever / moment from hinge line to ram mounting point, space available to mount rams etc...

You will also have to beef up the internal structure where you mount the rams on the flybridge.

Not actually as difficult as it all sounds as you already have the hinge installed.

I can get to inside and glue wood/ply so good fixing

I see they do 150lb one

I dont really know how to work out weight at hinge obviously easy to push down by hand but at hinge ????????

I dont think it matters if arch flexes as hinged

How did you get them to sync together

I phoned them and asked if adj limit switch they said no

I looked at there You Tube vid it said put 10amp fuse in line to stop damage to actuator

I have just done this with Linak units, mine are long throw LA28 versions. You may find that 150lbs ( actually pounds force ) about 700 newtons is way to light to shift that arch, Firstly I had to add 2000 newton gas assists to neutralise some the weight and then I have two 3500 newton rams. You need a very considerable force to begin to raise the arch from the dropped down position, thats the worse case scenario, and compounded by the poor angle that the force is applied at that point. The electric Linak units have over run /over current switches built in. Electric is a lot cheaper then hydraulic but a lot less powerful. Be careful about speed , some actuators at or near max loads, slow down and hence the arch will take forever to raise

It can be done but its certainly not trivial ( hint do the gas assist first , that gives you a flaviour.

My arch is a stainless steel unit with a heavy open frame 4 foot radar antenna, KVH 4 sat unit, lights, horn, search light etc. Dont skimp, better over spec then under and find it doesnt work well or prematurely fails.

Postcript, I am now thinking if adding two more 2000 newtons gas assists to make the life of the rams easier. The Linak units are medium use units designed for hospital beds etc,

to test the various forces required a heavy duty spring balence will give you and idea of the numbers involved

Hi

Just bought spring balance of ebay £5.00

200kg so I will use to see tension at hinge and above

I hope this does trick, if not ok to weigh my wifes bag when we go to airport not sure that the weight is enough though

Hi

I used spring balance weekend and to my surprise is was only 38kg so not problem with most actuators.

I am now thinking of changing one of the gas struts to electric !!!!!!

The existing gas strut is 400mm open and 200mm closed.

I am struggeling to get such small size electric

Any ideas

Electric struts

You want to give Wizard transformations a ring on 01865 407302 they supplied and fitted electric rams to my boat for £1960 fitted and powered up. They took all the guess work uot of it.
Best thing i've bought for my boat.
I love to see the people faces as I come to a bridge then power down the arch.

Cheaper to pay my 14year old son to stand there all day and lift it up and down!!

For that price I would expect pneumatic dancing girls!!

http://www.firgelliauto.co.uk/ will have some to suit. I used two bennett hatch lifters on my arch, no problems. Mine is GRP, may struggle with a steel arch, depending on what you have. Other option is an electric pump from an old tipper truck (see local scrappy..) with rams to suit. Have fun!

And very smart they look too - shame you can't get the arch down past your blue ensign!

Ah, but I can now.... Using original flag staff mount on the rail instead of the crappy new one I installed. Just have to take off the new one and gel coat the holes over again. Just not sure what colour to have the saloon when I get home this evening, although I feel a warm yellow / orange coming on due to the weather!
