Effect of coronavirus on UK/European sailing?

Well, to me it does.
"but Bozzer & Brexit put the dampers on that plan."

Bozzer & Brexit mean we'll be subject to Schengen Visa rules after the end of this year and that is what put the dampers on my plan for next year, nothing whatsoever to do with the virus and (I repeat) my post doesn't suggest that it is...

The Mobrihan police are getting fed up with kicking people off the beaches !

Nos plages du département doivent ressembler à celle-ci !!!

beach1.jpg

The local islands are now also off limits:

London is heading for a French style lockdown either this weekend or perhaps next week and the 2020 season is starting to look doubtful at best.

I‘ve delayed launch ahead of Easter and am beginning to wonder whether to launch at all this year. Tricky call. Who knows, in retrospect it might seem that the best thing to do was save a few £k and keep her ashore.

Hope it doesn’t come to that.?

I expect the shut down is going to be announced on Friday and implicated before Sunday. The mass meeting of people for Mothers Day is why I expect the almost immediate shut down.

Concerto is still in the water, but I would still prefer to check it periodically. Tomorrow I am checking her and removing any existing tinned food items as they could be more useful at home.

It seems this season will be much shorter than I planned. Does anyone expect the Southampton Boat Show to be cancelled?

Many UK and other nationalities yachts locked down in Algarve Portuguese harbours, water activities banned, beach activity restricted, told by marina that movement restricted to leaving harbour and returning that day to same harbour But this expected to be rescinded following state of emergency last night. Most restaurants pubs closed and all must close at 2100. Shops, pharmacies, garages etc allow one customer in and one out. Food in good supply - no uk type panic buying - cannot go to neighbouring country ports. Marina offices rumoured to be unmanned end of this week - phone and email contact only. No new yachts arriving for weeks now.

can think of many worse places to be but cruising season possibly gone this year

Hi everybody hope you are all coping ok. I have a question for you, I am lucky I have home and large garden so I can exercise myself and dogs no problem, but the question is, am I being selfish driving 50 miles to my boat speaking to nobody boarding my boat and going for a 3hr sail i always sail solo so that is no problem. or should I just stay at home like everybody else I believe is doing. I am 78 but quite healthy and fit.
Mike
PS I have not done this so far because I feel I should not, we live in Cumbria boat in Fleetwood Marina very little going on until Easter normally just a few hardy ones like me sailing through the year

Hi Mike
The way it stands at the moment back in the UK you can still do what ever you want .
I think the question I would ask myself is . At 78 is it worth the risk when if we believe the report threat people over the age of 65 are more at risk of dying they catch it .

From lockdown Sicily ..

Before the Corona virus crisis blew up, I had booked a ferry back from St Malo to Portsmouth at the end of April.

However, I had not yet booked the outward crossing from Portsmouth that I wanted to make at the beginning of April since I was uncertain when I could leave (for reasons not connected with Corona virus).

I am now wanting to get a 100% refund from Brittany Ferries on the grounds that since I cannot get to France in the first place, I cannot possibly make use of the return booking!

The Brittany Ferries website states that I can only have 50% so I have written to their head office asking for a full refund.

If you are ever within 2metres of someone, or touch something they have touched, you may be at high risk.
However, against that, you have the option of visiting Tesco in the oldies scramble , coming away with sod all, othwr than a virus.
Which are you going to choose?

Did you pay by card?
If so, that might he your first stop.
Alternatively you could sue Macron.

Hope you keep well.
Best wishes Mike

If I had to make a guess as to what is happening I would strongly suspect the ferry would be cancelled before then and you would then get a full refund.
Alternatively Brittany Ferries normally allow you to transfer to a different date for free, maybe move to much later in the year. If still can't go move it again. Just a thought

Sounds like you are being very responsible, If you want to go, and accept the small risk, I would go. Next week you may not have the option.

I'd just go if you wish to. There's nothing the least bit selfish or wrong in going about your business if it neither contravenes a lockdown, nor puts others at risk. Neither seem to apply here and there's no shame whatsoever in getting out and enjoying the sea air for a few hours of peace.

And post some pics on here; we've all got to get through this without going stir crazy :)

You can certainly change a booking FOC up to 5 days before travel but you would normally lose your deposit if you cancel.
As we've not been in this virus situation before I don't know if full refunds will be offered or just rebooking.
I'm booked out from Caen on 30th and back from St Malo on April 6th but neither will run and they've said they would email 72 hours before the booking. I'm simply going to move my bookings out a month, then I expect another month again after that.
I can't change my booking online which is unusual, I don't know if having a Club Voyage card will help.
