I recently bought a Garmin 12 inch plotter to replace the 7 inch Garmin. Stupidly I thought it would be a case of making the hole bigger, plug and play. But no. The 12 inch needs a separate antenna, and to get the sonar to work it would need a Garmin GSD22 black box to link the transducer to the plotter. The problem now is this box is obsolete! whilst searching the internet I came across a smartphone sonar that would link my existing transducer to my Samsung tablet by blue tooth! It looks like a good piece of kit and would fit the bill for my needs at a fraction of the price of Garmin kit (if I can even source it...) I rarely use the sonar function, but I wouldnt be without it. So the question is, has anyone any experience with Echo Zilla good or bad? really tempted to order one!!

I once asked the same question on a fishing forum. I was hung, drawn, quartered and buried. Exhumed, burnt on the stake and spread to the wind. I gathered from the experience that it cannot compete with the plethora of sonar and fishfinders used by the well heeled enthusiasts but I'm pretty sure it would be good enough as a depth sounder with enough resolution to give me an indication of what kind of substrate I'm anchoring in. So, good? Bad? I think it depends on what you are relying on it for.
