I have a tack tic display which has packed up . Depth and wind . What could I replace it with. Could be wired directly instead of wireless. I also have a axiom that shows depth. But only shows speed through the water and wind when the tack tic was on..

So when we got her she was fitted with tak tick , wind, speed, depth with 2 displays one in one outside. One display packed up ages ago , tried to replace the batteries but just brocken it properly. I replaced the whole lot with a axiom with a new sonar fish finder, when the tak tic worked wind and speed showed on the axiom display, now it doesn't. , ,but just sailing in home waters I don't really need the all singing and dancing power hungery beast. The original depth and speed units are still in the hull but work wireless but obviously the batteries are now dead. If I could wire them directly to the axiom and have a repeater to the cockpit , could I leave the axiom off and just have depth on the display ? Thanks for your thoughts

So you must have a hull transmitter T121. This is a grey box that the depth and log transducer connect to which put the depth and log data on the wireless network. You must also have the T120 wireless wind transducer up you mast that puts wind data on the wireless network.

The T121 should have a 12V power supply to it as being inside they do not have solar power. It has a small battery in it as well so that it can run for a short time without 12V but you get warning messages on the displays in this situation.

That's how data gets on your wireless network.

The displays receive the data from the wireless network and display it.

To get data to your Axiom you must have a wireless interface that reads the wireless data and puts it on to a wired connection as the Axiom cannot read the wireless network. There are two possibilities for this - an old T122 wireless interface which converts it to NMEA0183 which then needs another converter to SeatalkNG that the Axiom can understand. The T122 is a grey box that looks the same as the T121 hull transmitter. The other possibility is a wireless interface that converts directly to SeatalkNG. This is white and looks like a spaceship and is called Raymarine Microtalk. The T122 or Microtalk will also be inside and need 12V power. The Microtalk gets its power from the SeatalkNg cable.

As I understand it, none of your Tacktick displays work now and you only get speed through water on your Axiom. Is it definitely speed through water on the Axiom and not speed over ground?

If you are still getting speed through water on the Axiom then this means that the hull transmitter and wireless interface (which ever type you have) must still be working.

You cannot wire directly from the transducers to the Axiom as the transducers put their data onto the wireless network.

Some things to try:

1) The Tacktick displays can be powered by an external 12V source to see if they come back to life. On the back there is a rubber bung that can be removed to reveal the connections. Small crimp connectors can be fitted to these.

2) Check the 12V to your T121.

3) Check the 12V to your T122 if you have it

4) Check the LED on the Microtalk if you have it. Different colours mean different things.

5) Check the depth sounder connections to the T121. Unscrew them and remake them. Check that the pins on the green connector are clean.

I don't know if the T122 interface or Microtalk will receive wind information from the T120 wind transducer if there is no working display in the network. Even if it could in theory it may not have a good enough reception signal from the masthead to inside the boat where the interface box is.

If none of this works then you need to decide what to do. Tacktick stuff is no longer available new although Raymarine will still repair it. Fixed price repair is usually best as they will repair whatever is wrong for a fixed cost.

OK thanks. I forgot. Separate log and depth transducers. The wind unit was replaced with wired to a display when i put in the axiom which also has a self steering display. These work fine.
