ECF events in 2015

So folks, with Santa taking a well earned rest, and the new year fireworks just round the corner, it feels like time to start putting a bit of meat on the bones of the (un)official 2015 ECF calendar....

So, the events that have been discussed (a few old favourites, and a few new ones potentially)

mid spring - Fitting Up
late spring/early summer - Oostende vor ankor and/or a Boulogne trip
summer - Pirates
late summer - Queensborough BBQ and poss trip on to London
early autumn - Laying Down

(what have I missed or got horrendously wrong?)

Can we be (uncharacteristically) organised, and get some dates tied down, so that we stand a good chance of getting as many there as possible?

I reckon that if we work hard on this thread, we could have it all agreed by March some time! :D

There are currently 14 boats down for the BBQ, 11 of which plan to follow on to Limehouse. Should be quite a party!

Laying Down Supper: ?


Two problems we and any other sailing family with kids face are a) we are fighting a school system which is relentlessly reducing the summer holiday period down to about 4 weeks in August only and b) we are fighting a hostile government which sees taking kids out of school outside holidays for any reason as a crime with punitive fines on parents for so doing. Our options outside the prescribed school holiday periods are now almost zero, a situation I abhor but have little control over.

I suspect that we are in a minority on here and many of you have no such restrictions but if any others with kids are interested in some sort of informal East Coast rendezvous in the holiday periods maybe we could try to arrange something.

I was thinking of organising another MOB Recovery practice weekend complete with life raft donated by Ticlacy.

We did the last one in the moorings at Marconi followed by a BBQ at the club. This was a good venue but a poor turn out for a VERY instructive session. Any venue suggestions and dates?

This was a great idea but we couldn't make it IIRC.

As for venue if there is a repeat, how about a nice warm pool or the Med? :) Seriously, do the liferaft servicing people offer this sort of thing where you can use your own raft? Ours is up for a service so is a candidate I guess.

Was a clash for me previously but would be interested in coming along. As am singlehanded more often than not am wiling to be the dummy who jumps in so long as you choose a date in July to Sept that I can make!

subject to the usual blah de blah de blah... we'd be up for that.... Marconi works well as a mid point venue for most

Additional point of order... there is no mention of a 'laying up' supper.... in the ECF, it is traditional to finish the season with a 'laying down'... much more in keeping, and makes it something to look forward to! :D

We could only make pirates at the end of August. We made it this year but it was only two boats :eek:

Speaking of which, 'Fitting Up' sounds a bit strenuous. Didn't it used to be 'Fitted Up'?
 
So who's doing the New Years eve fireworks this year??? Good view from shotley of the Harwich display... We will be there....
