eberspacher

I am using a 1.8KW heater on my Atlanta wheelhouse ketch.
The heater is in the wheelhouse with ducts into the wheelhouse and the saloon only. It heats these areas fine but the fore and after cabins (front and back bedroom in swimbos parlance) remain unheated. More ducting could sort this out but there would simply not be enough heat for all cabins at all times.
To heat the whole boat I would suggest 4KW and well insulated ducting.

I have an excellent contact in the marine heating world if you want some info then PM.

IMHO - Webasto is a better bet than Eberspacer, doesn't need the annual service, works at a greater angle when the boat is healing and it a bit cheaper!

My Bavaria 30 Cruiser (which is very "spacy") is factory fitted with a Eberspacher D4. And to HappyBoater69; I think Eberspacher and Webasto is very similar; it's just that Eberspacher put the heating unit in a stainless steel housing. Maybe the reason why Webasto is cheaper.

We've got an Eberspacher Hydronic that gives us two water filled radiators in our Duo 29 motor-sailer. One rad in the main cabin, and the other in the fore-cabin. We also get our calorifier heated from the Hydronic that, I believe, cannot be achieved with a blower model.

You can also run a water filled blower matrix from it - something like a radiator with a blower behind it.

2 Kw would be adequate for a 32 foot boat but 4 Kw will have you toasted in no time and will spend most of it's life at tickover consuming more energy than the 2 Kw would.. The Eber owners that I know all have problems, but this is far less the case with Webastos.

Dont understand the comment about eberspacher and the angle of heal. My boat heater is installed 180 degrees from my camper heater ( ie upside down) it works fine!!
Remember that the D2 gives out 2.2KW at best, distribution through the ducting will reduce this and boats are not well insulated. Would a 2KW electric fan heater heat the whole boat??

We have the Hydronic 5 in our Colvic Watson 34'6. This is connected to a 2kw fan-matrix unit for the wheelhouse, another 2kw fan-matrix for the main cabin, a standard domestic radiator for the forward cabin and a heated towel rail for the heads.

Ebers always need full battery voltages, some are designed to cut out after a few nonstarts and need dealer reset of the control units. Best to use white diesel or paraffin rather than red diesel which seems to gum up the gause strainer around the glowplug etc.. From my research Webos seem far less critical to minor problems and appear simpler to live with.
However my Eber d3lc with 2 outlets in a Moody 29 really does give good heat throuout when its working properly. Can't say reliability is it's best virtue though.

take no notice of the thumble thumbs, ebers work ok if you install according to the instructions, ive had a D1LC in my 35 ft bene for the last 5 years, NO PROBS, it heats it up grand, 1800 watts, and it keps the boat toasty even in the depths of winter, load of bollox about red diesel and paraffin, as i said 5 years on mine, red diesel main fuel tank, etc etc.
have a couple of D2 airtronics for sale if anybody interested

nor me, i reckon as the other post that the majority of probs are caused by amateurs not installing properly
