My airtronic DL5 which is about 18 months old, ran fine on saturday last then on sunday it refused to fire up. The diesel level in the port tank was quite low (about 1/3 left ) and as the tank is deep , I thought the heater pickup pipe might have been exposed and air get in. I fille dthe tank , but the system still doesnt start ( ie it goes through the two start cycles and doesnt fire up). Do these systems need to be bleed.

I read somewhere that these systems have a 5 start dequences lock out, it that true and that it needs the diagnostic unit CA1 05 020 to unlock. There is some mention that the time unit can unlock the systems, Anyone have any idea. I dontn want a piece of kit onboard that needs this type of dealer involvement

thanks

Ardic

Probably no good to you, but my Ardic system (now Volvo) had a reset button buried within the body of the heater unit. Had to be reset if tripped.
Check if your unit has the same (handbook).

I assume that the voltage to the unit was fine on sunday as they do take some power to get going in my experience.

As yours is new it will have the electronic digital thermo control which will lock out if you repeatly try to start it without it igniting. One firm press of the 'on' button with the temp set to high always gets mine going then scroll thou the time options for duration.

I cant see it will be fuel with 1/3 in the tank.

No, the DL5 does not have the lockout - just the D1LC and some early D1LC Compacts.

See this thread where ShipsWoofy actually asked Eber.

Intersting - not seen that before.

Certainly I was told of the lock out problem when I did the hand over on my then new boat.

Always been alert to it since. But in fairness never had a start up issue other than when at anchor with very low volts.

Disconnect its main power supply, it may reboot it, if you have not run it all summer the fuel may have fallen low in the stack pipe, try it again to bleed it through to the burner.

I service many heaters both eber and webasto, even after 1 year of use on red diesel the unit really needs a service as the build up of coke will damage the flame ring inside, protect your investment with a proper service as parts are a fortune if you need them.

Thanks, I see the piece in the eberspacher reply about the lockup being removed, yet my manual mentions it ( An imperrmissible amount of times!!).

I dont have the new digital control unit, merely the themp dial and the on/off and vent buttons type control unit.

Interesting advice - i run mine a couple of times in the summer to 'give it a run'.

When in use I seem to always have it on full tilt and switch it off. Never once has the thermo controls it so it blows different amounts of warm air or at different volumes etc.
All or nothing for me.

boat warms up so fast and stays warm no need to do otherwise.

No problems - quiet and clean exhaust too
