The exhaust pipe where it is clamped onto the stub exhaust of the unit is leaking fumes on our elderly but functioning well D5L.
Would anybody know if it has a special seal or is it clamped using a standard exhaust paste? It needs doing.

thanks, it has one of those clips so hopefully just a strip and refit with paste. Whilst working occasionally it does not fire up 1st time and has to have the off and on again routine......is there a most likely cause for this. I do not wish to fully strip it as it works and experience tells me old units taken apart can cause issues!

Maybe dirty fuel filter blocking fuel. Worth running on paraffin for an hour or so at full heat. This may clear up the fuel filter and also clean out the chamber. I added an in line filter on mine about 12 years ago which i occasionally change. Never had any problems

Might be a very slight fuel line leak, allowing a little air in so that it takes the duration of two start up attempts to pump a full supply of fuel up to the heater.

I think a dirty filter would more likely lead to problems when running a full chat than at start up, unless its just exacerbating another problem such as a leak as outlined above. (Though checking/cleaning the filter is a good thing to do anyway.)
