Has anybody lagged there eber pipes on board ? I've got the standard (3 inch ?)foil flexi stuff at the moment. By lagging the pipes does it make any difference to the heat that is pumped into the boat. Toying with the idea at the moment but by the time i get round to it the warm weather will be here.. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Oh any suggestion on what i should lag the pipes with and where from. If the panel think it's a good idea that is.

TIA

hi
i used some insulating material supplied by eberbasto then the 3'' foil lined stuff- seems to be ok
richard
ps eberbasto (google it)were very helpful

sorry just realised you mean main ducting - thought you meant exhaust
no i didnt use anything over 3'' internal ducting - they do get quite hot and wont take too much weight through lockers - but i dont leave the heater on for hours at a time so i'm just mindful of the heat being generated

Yup sorry should of been a bit clearer... I have the heat proof stuff on the exhaust. I mean the main ducting pipes that run round the boat. On my boat the heater is in the stern locker and pipes run round the houses before it exits in 5 outlets. There must be a heat loss somewhere along the line before it exits into the cabin hence the idea of lagging to keep the heat in a bit.

Hi

It's certainly made a difference on our yacht. We bought some insulating covers at a boat jumble last year and it's great. Just before christmas we were sat in the saloon in T shirts--infact it got so warm we had to turn the thermostat down.

We have an old D3L with 2 outlets and it's heating a 13.5 metre yacht.

I am quite happy to loose a little heat through the pipe as this runs through a cockpit locker and below a berth, it helps to keep these areas dry....any lost heat is not really lost but just used elsewhere!

Paul.

p.s. You are better running the heater at full blast anyway as when the thermo kicks in the heater ramps down and therefore can carbon up quicker!

I insulated mine and put bubble wrap over that. The difference was amazing. Especially in the forward cabin (34ft from heater)

I bought a large sheet of thinsulate fabric on eBay
Cut it up into strips and wrapped the 8' or so of ducting just in the cockpit locker.
Its made a huge difference and only cost a few pounds

Hi Aidy - Have a look at my previous post. In our tests, (PBO) we increased heat at the furthest outlet by 60% (measured on a sensitive electronic thermometer. We were using 3M's Thinsulate, sold by Keto as sleeves. Wrap around is better for a retro-fit.

You may want to keep the pipes uninsulated in areas such as clothes lockers, though.
