Firstly, you'll have to bear with me as I'm posting on behalf of a friend of mine, and I don't know as much of the technical speak as maybe I should.

He's just moved out of his house and in to a 41ft yacht, and has installed an Airtronic D4? He said it didn't work correctly giving a fault code 133 and asked me to find out what on earth it meant.

Scouring through google I found this page;

http://www.espar.com/htm/tecmans.htm

but I couldn't get any codes beyond 097. Does anyone have a full list of fault codes please? He's now not got internet, and as it's freezing out I wouldn't like to think of him freezing his nads off. I've just spoken to him and he said it fired up and shows code 000 which I understand is correct, but is '133' a serious fault?

Many thanks!

Did he use the proper fault code retrieval device?

If not, is there a possibility that his system is misinterpreting the fault code?

If it is the correct code, suggest he emails Espar and asks what the code is (and for a full list of the codes)

If he has made his own fault retrieval device, I am sure a lot of us would be interested in the details!

As far as I know, there are no 3-digit fault codes for the eber. Sounds like some other snag with the controller. One of their controllers has the facility to display fault codes and also can erase them, thus bypassing the dreaded lock-out. It is my experience though, that no matter what facility you have to read fault codes and reset the heater, it will still eventually have to be fixed if it is starting to have problems.

Their reliability can be seriously affected by even the slightest fuel contamination, which then gets worse and worse. Once the heater insides start to coke up they then get even more coked up, etc etc and will need stripping and cleaning. I suggest your friend checks his fuel for clarity and cleanliness, since that is exactly the problem I had with mine. I ended up having to clean out the fuel tank. Since then no problems. Fuel additives can also cause them to fail eventually, eber only recommed Soltron or Fuel set.

Having said that, they are actually very simple animals and quite robust, and will usually work again very well after cleaning and decoking.
