Eber D4 not firing up - trying to help a friend

A friend has a D4 which is failing to start.

There is power to the 7 day timer (it's the one with the white logo, not the blue) and it lights up and acts as normal when you turn the heater on.

However, nothing happens at the heater. Also, no power going to the fuel pump. I checked the fuses and all appears to be OK. This is supported by the fact that there is 12v going to the yellow wire (Pin 4) which I read online to check.

So, i'm guessing that the unit is locked out.

Does this need to be sent to an agent to un-lock?

I don't know if the controller has built in diagnostics... if so, can anyone advise how to check?

Possible the PCB has failed - it happened to ours, motor turned, but no start up sequence, no fuel pump ticking etc. Not cheap to replace (arounf £150 if I remember) Needs a diagnostic check really.

Is this in the heater itself? I'm happy to just take out the heater and send it to an agent if needs be (as i'm not the one paying!)

-EDIT- Sorry, I know the item you're on about now, it connects to the loom... yes it is inside the unit, on top

Oh, I'm sorry, I'm not sure, it was done by an Eberspacher engineer, but I guess it will be inside the unit - has he got a manual with it? I'll see if I can turn something up on the web.

No manual. Hasn't been used in a long while as the fuel pipe is empty... i might put 12v on it tomorrow and see if I can get it clicking. But either way, the unit doesn't fire up.

I have a D4 myself so i'm eager to get to know about these units.

Sorry, that's not working. Try googling Eberspacher Diagnostic and Repair Manual. I did find it, but can't download it now

White logo timers don't, blue do.

I used Thames Valley Electro Diesel, really cheap and very helpful 0118 975 1199, they sort lorries and stuf and are generally much cheaper than boat equivalent.

Daft question - is there enough fuel in the tank ? The fuel pick up pipe for the heater will not (should not) go to the bottom of the tank.

It would at least try and the pump would get power if that were the case, it may be the reason for numerous failed starts leading to a lock out though. OP, when you say there is no power to the pump, this is often misdiagnosed as the power to it is pulsed and sometimes will not be read by a multi meter, to check it one needs to provide a pulsed (never permenant) power source and see if it clicks and spurts a little fuel on each click. If as you say, there is absolutely zilch at the heater I would suspect the following in no particular order, corroded connection, ECU tits up, Air motor ditto, or multiple failed start lock out, most other faults would give at least some action at the heater.

Thanks for the info guys. I have found a place in Ireland that service them, so will go with them... with the weak Euro it'd be as expensive to ship to UK and get it checked there.

Personally I suspect it's a simple lock out. David2452 - can you confirm that a user cannot reset a lockout? I suspect it could have been as simple as trying to start with low fuel also.

On some variations simply removing the power source for a few seconds will reset, but don't count on it.
