blowing nice and warm in cabins but blowing cold in cockpit. Popped down to investigate and all hoses connected properly and securely but as you face the unit, the left hose is hot (very hot) and the right hand hose is cold resulting in the cold flow into cockpit. If there was a blockage, I wouldn't get any airflow thru cockpit hose so...any ideas that I might be missing?? Boring thread I know but am at a loss.

Lisa , if you are saying that looking at the heater one pipe is hot and tuther is cold and the cold one goes to the cockpit then i think you may find that it is the inlet pipe for the fresh air , exhaust pipe leaves from middle of heater and will be hot also .
 
Hi Andy, thanks, to my embarrassment, you're probably absolutely right but I can't help feeling that there's something not quite right coz the cold air blowing thru that vent makes it bloody cold in the cockpit. Think I need to have a look at a diagram or 2 to sus it all out before asking anymore embarrassing questions :o.

Q, it's blowing but having googled some diagrams, I think this should be sucking air into the system as per what Andy is saying in his response. Hmmmm, must be missing something obvious I'm sure!

Possibly. Exactly where in the cockpit is it? At the helm? or rear seating area?

There should be an air intake, the heater unit inc exhaust, and air outlet. That's it.

Are you sure it's blowing? Stick a piece of bog paper or similar over the vent.

If it's blowing, and blowing cold air, it cannot be coming from the heater unit.

Hi Questor. Ok here goes: The vents positioned port side below rear seating. I've looked in the engine bay and the vents hose is definitely connected to the left side of airtronic system box...no doubts on that so I am now convinced this has to be the air inlet for the system; problem is, it is definitely blowing when I now know it should be sucking, just can't work out how as the air is obviously getting INTO the system somehow coz the cabin vents work perfectly! go figure. I will, just to be certain I'm not going mad, try putting a feather infront of it but it sure as hell feels like its blowing to me when i put my hand there and when it blows a draught round my feet.
Hope that makes some sense.

As I said in your last post, id say its your inlet TO the heater not an outlet, how many outlets are inside the boat, and what size in KW is the unit, as a 4kw unit will have a max of 4 outlets otherwise it wont be very efficient.

As I said last time does it suck air into the cockpit vent, maybe not, reason for that is you get induction noise, some owners then undo the clip and pull off the ducting on the INLET side of the burner unit, which as I said if its in the engine bay will suck in engine fumes and spread them around the boat.

As the cockpit vent is nearest the burner/rear of the boat id still say its an inlet because it would be very warm as it would probably be the first outlet in the run from the burner which always gives the best heat.

Also its not a vent that can be closed, on any install you have to have 1 fully openvent incase by accident someone closes all the vents which would overheat the burner and cause a premature shut down, so go and check to see if the boat has another fully open vent.

Hi Paul, yeh it's the inlet for sure. 2 outlets in cabins working well and no other fixed vents. I understand the system now so I understand better what you and others are saying. I will double check the blow or suck situation but tbh i know its blowing in which case somethings amiss. If I cant work it out, i'll take some pics and post. Thanks for your help everyone. :)

Sorry all...should have maybe titled this as 'prolems STILL' or just posted to my original thread. I haven't ignored any advice previously given, I did try it all but no solutions. Anyway, thanks for bearing with me on this.

As VP says, you should have one open vent on the system, and this should be "down below" (probably in the saloon), not in the rear cockpit seating area

I'm convinced that his is your inlet vent, you're having a bad dream, and will wake up shortly :-)
 
On the one which is blowing cold, don't use a feather or tissue over the vent incase it is sucking and gets sucked in. Use a sheet of paper and aim to half cover the vent to assess if sucking or blowing (to fully cover the paper may get stuck on until unit is shutdown)
It should be configured to suck in warm air from a cabin or cockpit otherwise it would be sucking air in from the engine bay with the possibility of fumes or air from outside which would be colder

If not this one sucking there should be another non closing vent
But if this one is blowing cold air it could be that you have not wiated long enough for the air to heat up or if it were the last vent in the system the pipe run could be so long that the heated air is cooling down and due to wind chill the moving air feels colder than it actually is
 
Just to update you (and to relieve you all of my frustrating ignorance)...the vent in question is the air intake. I did the paper test as suggested by you all and to my surprise, it is sucking and NOT blowing, it just felt like it was against my hand (bizarre!!). So in conclusion...our 3 year old sc35 doesn't have a warm air vent in the cockpit. Am gonna have one fitted tho if poss coz it is bloody cold without one!! At least I know alls working fine and dandy which is a relief. Thanks all for your help as always :)
