"Eating on Board - No Fear; MUCH Too Expensive!"

LPG refills

The last Butagaz Cube I bought in Bonifacio was €6.80, about 50% of the price for the comparable 907 Camping Gaz cylinder, and that was for 6 kg, not 2.75.

I have been just getting my Camping Gaz refilled at the local depots in Croatia - 24 kuna at the depot, 40 kuna at the marinas, that's £2.25 and £3.88 respectively.

Camping gaz 907 exchange bottles in Italy are between €18-12, refills about 1/2 that price, in Malta refills are about £M4.00 (£6.00 in UK money).

This all reminds me of Eric Balke, who had a kit which allowed him to go along to the local road-vehicle LPG pump and fill his gas bottles - he reckoned that cost about 20% of "official" refills, in the UK the cost of refilling your 907 bottle would be about £4.40.

Perhaps a referral to the UK Monopolies Commission would not come amiss.

True

but these S Africans aren't up to these little Brit foibles.

However it's going to be interesting to see what's going to happen to most peoples' gas bills this winter - I'd guess double at least compared to 2005-6 - after the Russkis have put the screws on and the Arabs have deliberately restricted supplies to the US and UK to punish them for supporting Israel during the last few weeks in the Lebanon.

They would take forever to pay for themselves, unless you liveaboard, then they might take a lifetime.

Not the best cooking experience I am told, but at least you reduce the fuel sources carried by one - potentially.

It' s not just gas. paraffin costs nearly twice as much in a swindlery compared with a garden centre!
