Anyone have any pros or cons with mooring this far up the Hamble other than the time to get out on the Solent?
Would the anodes waste away quicker here as I assume this is brackish water? Would a 10m sports boat fit under the bridges at any tide?
How do the two moorings compare?
 
We have been at Eastlands for several years now. We have not found any issues with anodes wasting quicker than, say, Port Solent or Hamble Point. We had no access issues with our 9m sports cruiser, except extreme low tide just above Swanwick marina. Flybridge is more restricted for us, though. Mooring alongside is really easy and convenient. This might sound trivial but Eastland's pressure washer seems more powerful and gets rid of barnacles better than any all others I have experienced - keep that in mind when scraping the hull next time ☺. Up the Hamble, you have nature, peace and quiet (assuming you are away from the M27), kids on the dinghy up to the woods or the Victorian farm, swimming in the river, fishing, short dinghy trip to the Jolly Sailor. Facilities are always clean. Cost probably 50 percent lower than further down the river. On the way up the Hamble, time for engine / turbos to cool down, have a cuppa and SWMBO to put out the fenders. Just my views...
 
Our Azi was moored at The Cabin when we bought her. There was a problem with anode erosion, water brine not brackish. Not sure of the cause, but the tide rips down there just before the ebb, and it could be this regular fast flow that speeds erosion. Bridge clearance clauses a bit of a restriction at high tide, but I don't think this would be a show stopper for me.
 
We are at Eastlands with a 30 foot sport cruiser.....love the fact that we are out in the country (also no sailing types cos they cant get under Bursledon Bridge)....its clean and tidy, easy reach of the pub by dinghy as EugeneR said. Only our second year but not planning on moving....and we love the trip down river and back...always something to see and allows warm up and cool down of machinery nicely.. I think pretty much anywhere on the Hamble isnt great for anodes, but no worse than most other places... and a Galvanic Isolator wherever you plug in is a must.
 
Have not stayed at Cabin so can't comment on that. We have had a 30' cruiser for several years at Eastlands (no problems under the bridge) and now have a flybridge so have to be a little more careful. We like the fact that its the last marina on the river and you berth alongside so there are always great views.

I am at Foulkes which is between the two yards you mention. Anodes are not a problem in my experience and my 11.5m sports cruiser can get under the bridge at any time....well any time I have tried! As already mentioned the trip up the river is a pleasant one and gives time to wind down with a beer while the crew pack things up!

The fees approximately half above the A27 bridge. I could get my Turbo 36 out on top of a 5m spring tide, so should be fine for a sports cruiser.

Don't discount Foulkes - this year will be the berthholders party - cracking evening out, and all laid on. Also when Anthony gets round to it there will be a bar / eatery on his 'new' barge. All these yards are a good base for the Bursledon Regatta too.

With the liveaboards always around security is generally good, but occasional thefts from boats on the mainstream, so lock away outboards etc. One forumite did have his dinghy pinched last year, and I recall VP had a prop stolen from his outboard when at The Cabin.

Ride out of the river takes about 40minutes, but plenty to watch and see and more interesting than the passage up and down Southampton Water. Also all these yards are just 5 minutes from M27 Jn 8.
 
It's been pretty good for us, but we go through after rush hour. We've had delays once or twice last season, usually specific reasons e.g. road works, but you can go north off the M27 and take the back route which is a few seconds longer. In fact, my merc believes it's shorter in any case.

+1 My Audi does too. As Eugene says go in the opposite direction to Tesco from the Motorway junction, first right and it will lead you to the A27 missing out the Tesco island. and if you also turn left into Blundell lane, you come out opposite Force 4 Chandlery by the bridge.

But then we always go to Tesco to stock up on wine and crisps etc.

Russ, there are more ways to get to Hamble than the Tesco roundabout! Far less hassle than going into Southampton! I was based at Eastlands long before the current ponton arrangement was in place. You can get to any of the upper Hamble marinas from at least 4 directions.
 
The cut through on yew tree drive from the whiteley exit at junction 9 is now permanently open( used to be just buses) that comes out pretty much at the top of swanwick lane, lots of options without going past Tesco:-)

I have the pleasure of the junction 9 car park every morning and night, but its not that much of a hassle. As said you don't need to go up to Tesco, exit left towards Hedge End, then right into Dodwell Lane, 300 yds then left into Blundell Lane, which brings you right out by Foulkes, or on to the Cabin opposite Force 4.

Coal Park Lane rail bridge can be a bit hairy going in to Eastlands.
 
The best route always depends on the time of day:-) we live a few mins from the boatyard so don't have a problem:-)
