Up the Hamble. We are currently at Moodys and although it is nice it's bloody expensive, so I was thinking about having a look at Eastlands. Does anybody have any views on it, facilities etc. I've looked on their website, but it is very limited on info. Also how bad is the motorway noise, does anybody who berths there find it a problem, or do you just get used to it. Equally is there a lot of dirt from the motorway.

Many thanks

Hi i think some of the pontoons dry there so you need to check this, sorry i have no other info,mm1.

Noisey from the motorway.

Dirty from the motorway.

Pontoon very long, quite a long walk with all your baggage.

Easy access from M27 .

Nice access to tranquility at the top of the river.

Hi there i see from your profile that you have a Sealine 29, that means that you can access the marina at all states of the tide under the bridges - remember to drop your aerial - you only forget once as the noise as they sanp is a touch alarming! Its about another 10 minutes up river from swanwick and you will be used to the tide run on the ebb from your time at Moodies (swanwick now!) I quite like it, the only thing really missing is Valshedas for a bite to eat!

I berth at Eastlands and none of the berths dry (or at least, only some of the trailer sailor berths do).

Yes it can be noisy/dirty from the motorway, but this is offset by the fact that you have a view of green fields and an otherwise more peaceful location and you quickly tune out the background hum.

Further, the few thousand a year less it costs to berth there more than makes up for any possible slight inconvenience of the long(ish) jetty. Trolleys are provided so getting your gear down to the boat is not a problem.

As we are at the top of the hamble there is VERY much less passing traffic, therefore much less wash (although you do get the occasional idiot in a rib going past too fast).

The bridges can be a problem (depending on your air draft) but never for very long. It is only a couple of hours either side of HW that I can't get under them (I own a Sealine S38), so the occasional Tidal Calculation is required - but hey - tha means I either get up and go, or hang back for an hour or so and go a bit later. No great problems there.

In sum, couldn't reccomend Eastlands enough. As secure as anywhere else and you're not shoehorned in with the wonderfil view of another boat immediately beside you. Other advantage is that because you're not on a finger berth, there is much less chance of another boat coming in, getting it all wrong and damaging you, although of course this could still happen.

Hope this helps.

Many thanks for all the input. The cost savings cannot be ignored, so I will have to go and have a look. The lack of a bar to walk to could be a bit of a drag as we use a couple quite regularly in the winter. Are the showers etc any good, or just basic?

Yes Eastlands is a good place to moor, I am there too just in front of Guy, come to Eastlands and you will have your own volvo engineer on site nearly every weekend yes thats me!.

Seriously its clean, new pontoons, plenty of parking space, friendly atmosphere, picnic site, good for dog walking, lift out no problem, its a bit noisey where I am, 4th boat up from m27 bridge but we have got used to it.

I have a princess 410 height wise its about the tallest boat there, in all the weekends we have been down we have never not been able to get out, contrary to some earlier posts about Eastlands on here, I wont mention who put it on either, I can get out about 1.5 hours ether side of HW except at top springs.

The views are good, grass and cows mainly, odd fisherman too.

Yes you do get the odd idiot flying by on a rib but thats it, a dose with the hosepipe if your washing down soon slows them down.

As your alongside the pontoon rather than a finger like arrangment mooring can be a little hair raising when the flow is strong, but that can also help as i have guys boat to bounce off! there is a good 1M between the boats sometimes more if your lucky, at least you dont have to moor between boats as per marina berths width ways on.

Am very happy there, I moved from Shamrock Quay, saved 2500.00 on my bill and simply love it.

Can certainly back up VolvoPauls post regarding friendliness and ease of access as well as having the benefit of a Volvo Engineer on site (i.e. him). He did a great job servicing my engines earlier this year, for a bl***dy good price too. If you need a service engineer, I for one would certainly reccomend him - and no I'm not his brother or on commission.

However, I can't say much for his boat handling though, especially as I watch him bouncing his way down the marina, ricochetting off all the other moored boats there -:)

Only joking - I've seen his boat handling and dammit - he's good!! Don't you just hate that, an Engineer who can also drive!!!! (Oil and water will never mix!!!!)

Anyway, as I said earler, great marina, great price, good views and friendly neighbours - couldn't recomend it enough.
