Easterly winds

I understand that Brighton with an easterly is fun...

I would have thought that S or SW was the worst for Brighton. I first went in there in the dark with a rising F5-6 southerly and that was better than any fairground ride and it has sometimes been lively with westerlies, but I have not been in with a strong easterly that I recall. I would have thought that Beach Head and the harbour's aspect would make it OK.

When I had my Stella in the 70s I recall that easterlies would start & it would be said that they would stay for quite a while. It was not unusual then. Perhaps some sailors have short memories.
I think that it was always the case that we would have easterlies during spring and early summer, with westerlies later, but lately it seems to have been the other way round.

Re Brighton Marina - I think it's strong SE winds that are to be avoided.

I've never experienced an Easterly wind coming back from the Netherlands. One day . . .
They don’t happen. There is probably some basic physical law that makes them impossible.
