done the easy part - bought the boat - now the challenge, find a berth! Question is though which marina?- East coast (where I live, familiar with the waters, wind affects, etc) or South coast (probably the largest community of coastal boaters for the UK). Pretty much settled on the east coast for the first half of this coming season - largely to cut down on travelling time and to familarise myself with the new boat, not to sure though for the permanent residence. Anyone faced a similar dilema? BTW boat is 30'.

new to this forum too, so apologies if topic already covered

Jim,

suggest you post at http://www.ppc.org.uk on the message board. There is a very lively east coast contingent who do regular trips (have a look around the site at the planned events for the year)

Jim, I'd get the boat as close to you as possible as certainly you'll want to spend a lot of time with her and it would be a major pain embarking on a major trek everytime you realise you've left the gas on or you just want to go down for a cup of tea and relax, never mind the odd evening or sunday afternoon potter.

good luck & enjoy

Stay East, the Solent is over priced over rated, over populated and overfilled with poo_Over 20 years ago I left the Solent and it was the most sensible thing I ever did.

If the fishing you mention is sea angling then stay where you are, any knowledge you have gained previosly will be of no use to you if you go to a new area, and angling marks are hard earned and jealously guarded.

Shotley point is a handy spot , every Sunday you will be able to enjoy watching a varied selection of boats all the way up through to Ipswich.
My fav, has to be watching the Thames sailing barges racing each other up the Orwell :-] a great site .
It is a bit of a haul from there up past Southwold but you will have speed on your side so a weekend run to Lowestoft or Yarmouth should be no prob.
Stuff the south coast it's far to over rated and so expensive .

Keep your eyes open when you come up towards The Wash as I do like a cup of tea ready
cheers
Mick
