East Mersea BBQ

Well if this is the alternative Pirates Weekend , then it ought to be 1st Weekend in JULY.

Someone look up the tides please?

Not such an issue for us this year or at this location, but surely Pirates=Kids=School holidays as preferred date.
In any case please don't make AJ choose between helicopters and fire boat at Medway River Festival and Pirates on 6th July!

School holidays are the least of our probs as my shift work is more of a issue , both the above mentioned dates are akward but I am willing to fit in with any date .

I assume that this BBQ is just a get together @ mersea not pirates

I do think that for the sake of nautical harmony the "pirates" w/e should be the topic of an entirely separate thread so no confusion about tides , dates , school hols or any other issues .

Just my thoughts .....

Can make either of those dates but would prefer the 2nd weekend; those coming from Harwich would prefer to take the flood down, maybe less of an issue for Blackwaterites?

I am not trying to be sarcastic or a smartarse, but doesn't the tide come down the Blackwater at the same time as it comes from Harwich?

He wants 4 hours to get down on the tide from Harwich so the second weekend gets him there after lunch on Saturday and home for tea on Sunday. I can leave Bradwell at HW and get there early afternoon.

That is Bradwell (and West Mersea and Tollesbury) but what about those coming from Marconi, Heybridge and Maldon? I would have thought that it would take them as long as coming from Harwich

Its never a problem. I have set out for Pirates at 0300 before in a ruddy 6 on the nose, towing a dinghy for delivery.
If you want to be there, you will be there.:)

IIRC, you did set out with a dinghy, but very nearly didn't arrive with one!!! :D

So true, it decided to beetle off across Foulness sands near Sunken Buxey on a falling tide in 'orrid weather. Got it back on third and final attempt with just under 2.0m in the troughs.
Pillock that I am.
