East Coast to Versemeer

no one will get this Bridge

I can see the usual suspects going in to "De Kamel".....Is the other one the barrier north of Dordrecht...name escapes me, despite having spent hours waiting for the lift.

Back to the original subject - we hit the Veersemeer for the first time this summer.
It was part of two week trip - Ipswich - Blankenberge - Terneuzen - Antwerp - Veersemeer - Middelburg - Blankenberge - Ipswich.
Planning to spend more time in the Versemeer in summer 2010 (late July/early August) and possibly visit the Grevelingenmeer for the first time too.
Any info on the Grevelingenmeer would be appreciated.
Oh and for those that haven't spent time in the Veersemeer, it's rough and windy and dull and rainy and busy so keep well away.... :D

We've done Ramsgate to Nieuwpoort a few times but this will be the first big crossing - in one go from Harwich to Oostende. I know it's only 77 miles but you're out of sight of land for a lot of that. Unlike our first 'big' channel crossing when we could see both sides for about 75% of the time!

Try imagining your doing the Ramsgate trip...but this time the visibility is poor (:
Seriously though, I know what you mean. We do Swale to Belgium and it can get a tad tedious, almost look forward to a bit of shipping in the middle.

Wingdiver

Suddenly came to me!!
Saw you in Blankenberg early July. You were moored at the end of the pontoon. I just remembered your big white boat........looked nothing like a fisher!! tee hee

I did my first Harwich - Oostende last year and loved it - weather is all of course. It wasn't too bad this year :) - this pic taken at 0515

It's nice that the weather window needs to be quite small but if we went down to the Swale it would be a 2 day trip.

That 5.15am photo just makes me wish it was July now.

Hi PeeGee
Yep, that was us - next to another Hans Christian

Thats some boat!
Re grevelingenmeer. Rightly or wrongly we always think of it as a "grown up" Veersemeer. There are more harbours to visit or victual, more islands to moor on, and generally more room. I only draw just over a meter so depth is not a problemfor me, but there are some pretty big Dutch boats swaning around so should'nt be too much of a problem for you.

I've always been nervous of the Grevelingenmeer, with all those mussel banks, and no tide to lift me off, though my last visit, about 15 yrs ago was pleasant. The baby-stay had just parted on our last boat and I met a nice young lady called Oranje in the lock, who steered me away from the big marina to her friend in Brouershaven, who did the repair the next morning before 9.30 I think for about £30. (Not as good as the sail repair I had done in Ipswich for 5/-).

veersemeer on a schakel

long time ago i sailed the veersemeer with a schakel, about 4 meter wooden dingy. i learned to sail without a rudder and backwards etc. lots of fun. one day i sailed a laser and got knoweddown by the wind blowing from the sea over the zeedijk. :) had to swim back with the boat on tow as i forgot the scope to bail the water out.

not sure how it looks like these day but may be one day i will sail again there with my own boat to check it out. :)
