Hi all, I put together a spreadsheet of marina charges so that I can compare them. I have also included charges for liftout (incl powerwash and cradle where applicable) and launch. It might be of use to some on here.

It's all very much based on my own personal needs (8m vessel), so you'll have to work around that. You can amend the LOA at the bottom, though. It uses BYH as a comparison as I used to be there, but you can amend that easily enough.

Feel free to contact me with any questions, but don't blame me for any errors - caveat emptor.

Cheers, Pete

Thats really useful, cheers - especially as my boat is also 8 metres long!

It never ceases to amaze me what marinas charge for swinging moorings. My boat is at Pin Mill. £400 for season afloat, £400 for winter storage. Haul out & lift in is included in price so £800 all in. Woolverstone marina, a stone's throw from me costs £2000 for the same and all you get extra is the water taxi (shuttle?) to your boat. Or are there other extras I am unaware of?

26ft boat at Marconi Sailing Club deepwater swinging moorings.
Club membership and mooring fees - £733
Winter storage and launching and recovery included but you have to be there and help others.
Drying moorings are cheaper!

Marconi is a great location.

Without a doubt there are much cheaper deals to be had on swinging moorings. I know someone that keeps their boat in an amazingly beautiful spot on the Deben for, frankly, chickenfeed. But then there are the usual downsides to that sort of arrangements. How big those downside are in completely subjective, but when I try to imagine Mrs Supine's face scowling at me as we row back from the mooring against tide in the rain, then I shudder.

It's interesting how much the craning and storage charges vary. I think it's a bit like when you go to a restaurant and you look at the food prices without noticing that they're going to clobber you on the wine. Shotley and Woolverstone seem particularly expensive.

did you enquire about any berth holder deals, on the extras

Not sure how you get a liftout at Shotley to come to £334 for an 8m boat.

I had my 10m boat lifted, scrubbed, chocked up in the yard and relaunched as part of the Summer special and it all came to £220 inc VAT

And even worse you have to keep your mooring maintained for every Tom Dick and Harry to come along and use it for free throughout the year.

Many of the marinas do a summer special for lift out, scrub and put back, but that is not the normal rate for lift out and storage, usually over the winter.
Some marinas also charge for storage of one's own cradle and some do not.
Most marinas also give a discount around 5% for payment in full before the due date. Some allow this on credit card and some do not.
Thanks for the info it is most helpful.

I calculated it at £23.50/m for the lift plus £6.80/m for powerwash and 50 days of cradle hire at 23p/day, all plus VAT. This is based on their standard boatyard prices so, yes, there are deals that can undercut the published prices in many cases.

All of the published prices are VAT inclusive.

My £220 charge was fully inclusive of lift out, scrub, cradle, lift in.

I'm also on the Deben, I don't have a problem with other boats using my mooring when I'm away and always inform the harbourmaster when I'm away for more than a day or so. On two occasions have I found a boat on my mooring, the first time a Dutch boat had used my mooring and obviously gone ashore, I just moored alongside and left a note in his cockpit hoping he will have a nice holiday. When I returned a week later, my boat was cleaned with all the ropes carefully coiled and a note saying I was welcome to visit his club in Holland. He was a 33' boat and mine was only 20'!
The second time a boat had picked up my mooring for a lunch break and moved immediately when I arrived.

That's lovely - how it should be.
