With the new season in view, perhaps its time to work up a list of the places on the East Coast that will be likely to provde a decent meal at the end of a days sail. Or provide some scope for diiffering opinions anyway.

Perhaps a rule that reponders can only nominate 2 places would be in order.

As a start:

Butt & Oyster/Maybush- I know they are now part of a 'chain', but they still have decent beer and food.

Shipwrights Ams, Hollowshore. Good beer, food. Just don't expect tolerance of kids, pets, wine drinkers. I'd hate to think of the fate of someone who aske for a 'Bacardi breezer'.

OK, I've broken my own rule by nominating 3, so shoot me.

Harbour Inn, Southwold. BTW, this just has to go on the calendar for a meet this year. If the rumours re the erosion work are true and it isnt done soon, this gorgeous place will be a gonner.

Neil,

Sounds perfick to me /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif - as late as poss in the summer for me would be best.

For us members of Hollowshore CC, the Shipwrights is now on our totally-banned list, as it seems the miserable g*t of a landlord was instrumental in getting our lease renewal refused (probably on account of the fact that we filled his car park on our social evenings and on Sunday lunchtimes).
We've now moved up to the head of Oare Creek, and the 'Castle' and particularly the 'Three Mariners' nearby both do good food.

How about one of the summer bank holiday weekends.... a trip up to Lowestoft on the Friday, and then back via Southwold Sat/Sun?

Brightlingsea - Kovalam (Indian)
Ipswich - Last Anchor (poncey & pricey but great)
Ipswich - Loch Fyne - fab fish
Deben - Ramsholt Arms
Woodbridge - Captain's Table (see Last Anchor)
Heybridge Basin - Either of the 2 pubs there
Bradwell - Green Man

We could have a competition say starting on 1st May to see the first person to get through 10 of the most popular choices, the only condition being a visit by boat and reporting back on the food and drink consumed at each one. Could make for quite a long thread.

Both the pubs at Heybridge Basin can best be described as average and could do a heck of a lot better. Top three from last years Autumn cruise:

Olde Ship - Levington
Kings Head - Woodbridge
Ramsholt Arms - Deben

Thing about the Plough and Sail is that it is truly out of the way. A difficult stunt to pull in the area. So all the mistresses are taken there as it is good food. Always advisable to give them a bell, or at least avoid the 8pm rush.
