Seems that the Quiz is down to me this year, having tried much too hard last year.
Just fiddling final touches to it. I plan to post the link to it on this thread, around 0800 on Sunday 9th, if I get out of bed in time.

Well, the prize used to be a decorative bottle of Belorussian vodka, which none of the previous winners dared to sample, but somehow it got lost a few years ago. Now it just gives the winner the chance or obligation to set next year's quiz! Perhaps we should try to find a suitably peculiar prize.

Perhaps we should try to find a suitably peculiar prize.

I have a genuine Australian made Fray Bentos Steak and Kidney Pie, only about ten years old and with a genuine Australian Customs sticker on it. It has great sentimental value but I could possibly be persuaded to donate it.........

thanks for keeping up the tradition!
Who is going to own up to drinking Ali's vodka? Someone must know who won it... Spot the wobbly person.

Ah ! Well, winning it and drinking it are two different things.
That was the year that I won and the prize hitched a lift up to Shotley but then the trace went cold.
So, since then, the prize had been this notional bottle of vodka
with this foolproof method of making sure it's not been drunk.

Dick thanks for this year's quiz. It's a very enjoyable format
At least it was - until I got to the 55-63 set

The full story on the prize is this...

We were given it by a very nice visitor from Belorussia, so I am sure it is perfectly good vodka. The china bottle is in the shape of a belorussian in traditional dress - yes, a bit bizarre. We donated it as the prize because we thought the combination of alcohol and bizarreness was about right for the ECF. (who remembers the little bottles of undrinkable, but very alcoholic Lithuanian mead that were prizes at one of the dinners - also donated by us!)

I arranged that "phoenix of hamble" should deliver the prize to the winner one year whose boat was at Shotley. It never arrived. I contacted Phoenix the next year, but I can't remember what the outcome was - possibly he has it.

We have run out of bizarre and alcoholic potential prizes (once my children had opened and sampled the Sri Lankan arrack). Maybe someone else has something suitable.

Cantata - that looks a suitably intriguing quiz. It must have taken you a long time to set. One observation though - previous quizzes have had rather few entries (at least the ones set by us, Janet Harber and Lisa did) and it is very irritating having taken all that time and effort when only 3 or 4 people try it. If you were to extend the deadline so that people could work at it over the Christmas braek, you may get more entries.
