Earthquake hits Ålesund...4+ on the Richket scale. 14.45 local time. The bloody house shuddered to two heavy rumbels. No damage reported. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

There was an earthquake centred in Mounts Bay, Cornwall (where I live) some years back -Quite strong. Our house is stone and 400 years old but it still literally 'shook' with the walls and doors etc moving!!

Very scary but no damage at all.

Later, I was told this was not 'unusual' - it was for me and I don't want another one!

It's not actually unusual at all , when I lived in Peterborough a few years back there was one where the epicentre was in Ferry Meadows , and I lived only a few hundred yards away , and since moving to Lincolnshire there was another one a few miles away . Everything shook like mad for a few seconds that felt like minutes , a few things fell off shelves and broke , but no real structural damage

There was one here in Brum a while back, epicentre in Dudley a reasonable way away, think it measured about 4.5 on the richter scale where we are, and we are quite far away, there's still a crack in the plaster of the spare room to this day, no structural damage after checkup but everything was falling off the shelves at about 3 in the morning, very scary!

Edit: Ah, found mine, thanks Brendan /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Dudley Quake info

I was asleep in a caravan in Warwickshire (at a boat rally so slightly on-topic!) when the 2002 Dudley quake happened. Woke up with the caravan rattling and shaking around which lasted for less than a minute.

Thought "what the **** is this?", looked outside, couldn't see anything, went back to sleep!

Only found it what it was the next day. I was a bit ticked off to discover that everybody else had slept right through it and didn't believe me!!!

We were woken up on board a chatered yacht at anchor in a quiet bay in Turkey a few years ago feeling as though some enormous ferry had caught us with his wash. It wasn't until we got ashor later for breakfast that we saw the real effects of the earthquake - NO PLATES FOR BREAKFAST!!
