Got an early morning wake up this morning at 6.30, despite my alrm being set for 7.30. A ship was passing the show marina and sounded its fog horn. Then I could hear numerous other fog horns sounding further away. Even now at just past 10 they are still sounding.

These photos were taken a 7am. A bit foggy.

Re your first photo, is that a Fairey Atalanta in the foreground?
And do you know who the two classic / tall ships are in the background?

Are there many other folk also 'living aboard' their boats at the Boat Show?
In your second photo, the two yachts on the right have hatches open at 0630, so I guess their exhibitors are also staying on board.
That makes a lot of sense - saves on hotel bills, and no risk of traffic jams to get to work!
 
As you would expect Bajan I wouldnt walk round the show and miss a Fairey. It is an Atalanta and a Dinky in attendance too.

I had a good chat with the fellas, we've hatched a plan for a Fairey Rally for all the dinghies and little boats.

As Burgandyben has said it is an Atalanta, but this was the very first one built. Normally kept in Ipswich, but the roaded it down to the Solent for the show.

The square rigger is a Dutch ship Morgenster. MORGENSTER - Sail On Board

The other boat is the famous Jolie Brise that was launched in 1913. JOLIE BRISE - Sail On Board

There are quite a few people on boats overnight, however we are not allowed to wander round the marina after about 7.30 without a security guard. So there is little chance to party together. We can leave the showground for supplies or a meal, but have to have an escort back to your boat. The Hunter alongisde has 2 people staying onboard and there are several others close by including catamarans and motorboats. Before the show opens there all sorts of workmen around from fixing pontoon problems, clearing rubbish away, cleaning the toilet blocks, delivering and setting the food stalls and the army of people drying off the boats ready for the "buyers".
 
I love it when the Millenials living in the 'exclusive' apartment blocks in Ocean Village take to Facebook asking why there are horns going off in the early morning and where they can they complain to get it stopped ! Its fog you live by a port get use to it ( :

When I used to take my ‘old’ command into Eastbourne we had to go through the bridge for the bigger berths, often in front of the apartments.

But we had to run the ER fans for about 30 mins after shutting down and during the day the generator for the (survey and domestic) supply.

I could count down the minutes until the harbour office called saying they’d had noise complaints .

Any evidence that it’s Millenials doing the complaining ?

Seems like a pretty gratuitous dig to me.

More likely Gen Z students at Portsmouth Uni - Millenials (Gen Y) are a bit old to be in that group. Anyway, Millenials tend to write to the Guardian if they want to complain about something and Facebook is mostly Gen X and Baby Boomers these days. Not that I approve of labelling things or people of course but that's what the data says...
 
I used to like to hear the foghorns sounding at night while tucked up in bed when I lived in Southampton many moons ago.
And I have been out in the Solent and Southampton Water when the viz was very poor - not so nice then hearing fog horns but not seeing the ship, and wondering where the heck it is coming from - no AIS in those days.......
 
I didn't know what a Millennial was until now. I had to look it up.
