I am really excited about the prospect of EC boat show. I used to love the atmosphere and I dislike the feel of Excel by almost the same factor.

Perhaps the BMF might learn a little humility if EC succeeds - listening to the very people that really make a show work, the visitors, might teach them something new!

Does it not worry anyone that no exhibitor list has become available as yet and the only announcements about exhibits are a selection of mid range powerboats and the odd chandlery, at the moment there really is no show to go to unless they are holding an ace up their sleeve.

Small boat builders will get far better help from their federation than from a company that wants a boat show for no more than profit in their back pocket. Show me an argument that disagrees with that comment I will take it all back! The Federation works for the industry and is supported by the industry big and small.

The question has to be asked, is there a need for a London boat show for small craft and chandlers alike, the market has changed not the boat show

You are quite correct. I have read all the organiser's press releases and have seen nothing about any exhibitor yet that I would want to make the trek into Central London to see.
Lots of hype and optimism but not much substance yet. No doubt an unpopular comment with many forumites, but sadly true.

The market is driven by what the marketeers think we want, or more correctly what their paymasters think we want. The SIBS and LIBS are a monopoly. The biggest influence on the BMF will be the biggest players, ask Brian Peters. The BMF shows will show and display what those major players want us to see.

The fact that some of the smaller builders/agents together with the interesting chandlers were not at Excell this year proves that, was the space needed for more 'first time buyers' 36 footers from those influential forces?

What would be of interest to you enough to make worth a visit?

This is a little worrying, it would be a real shame if exhibitors were 'leaned' on by BMF into not showing.

Far from it, but I do know that ALL revenue from shows and events is put back into the industry via the federation, the skill and expertise is there for any member to use.

If I were a boat builder I would belong to them.

As I said a few months ago, I feel this will be a non event or a very different event to what most of the forum members are expecting.

I would like to be proved wrong I really would.

Quite - in the mean time, who looks after us?
And don't tell me it's the RYA - that's an industry in itself. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Thats all hype, I think ALL exhibitors are intelligent enough to make up their own mind if they want to exhibit or not, you cannot "lean" on anyone the industry is simply to small.

Are there really going to be a lot of exhibitors? Most of the biggies will stay away, they have enough with two boat shows already, somehow dont think it will be well supported. Thats not to say I wont go, I always liked EC. But prefer boat jumb les anyway, thats the place I find the stuff I need, like a womble, making use of stuff folk throw/sell away!

A lorra chandleries with real deals. A lorra sailing yachts 35' and less. A lorra equipment manufacturers with interesting displays on their stands. A lorra places to sit down and eat my sandwiches.
Plus decent air-conditioning as EC never had that in the past.
All that lot might make me put up with the cost and effort of struggling into London. Bearing in mind that on the train I can't get to the Show on a weekday before about 11:45am with a cheap day return ticket.

The fact that its a small tight industry makes it all that much easier to influence wayward non members.

If anyone recently went to the Ideal Home you will see that the venue has not changed whatsoever since the last EC Boat Show, the aircon is still as bad but there will be loads of places to sit as there wont be any boats there...........

All they have done so far is sold you the old days of EC's court we dont live in that age anymore things have moved on, markets have changed , chandlers dont get a return at major shows anymore etc etc.
