Just had a word with the resident at Days about how nice his steps are.
He just uses hot water and a brush. Sorted.
But to be fair Days does not have metal grids. They are more awkward to clean. And the are very very slippery.
I wonder if the steps are in fact for boaters. The ladders on canal locks are for emergency egress of people who fall into the lock chamber rather than being specifically for boaters to use.
I think the Thames stairwells probably were put in for boat use though.
